My first accident...

I love it when people say that not having matching tyres causes a crash like this.
You dont need matching tyres at all unless you are racing or are in terrible rain so that the water is moved out the same.

The crash was down to either oil on the road, bad driving or the car having another issue. It was mostly likely to be oil on the road or bad driving. The OP said he was driving in the early hours so if he has been awake from a reasonable time say 8am then he may have been awake for 18 hours. Therefore his concentration levels wouldn't be as good as if he were driving around noon.

Glad that he is OK as that no one else was hurt.

You should contact the OP's insurance company and tell them to close the investigation. You have just saved them a fortune. CASE CLOSED!

Tyres may not have been the cause (there rarely is a single cause) but may have been a significant causal factor.

Ouch. Glad you're ok. Very surprised that happened if not speeding, driving sensibly unless there was something massively wrong with the road or car itself. Could there have been a large area of standing water on the bend? Although I would be surprised at that if the road has recently been resurfaced.

I'd agree with Fox except thats presuming you drive like Grandma, anywhere near the limit and tyres can make a difference. For some reason this particular curve needed more grip then was available

Im many years of driving I have never lost traction from the front wheels unless I was hooning or black ice
Understeer is so gradual people miss its there, so loss of grip on front tyres is normal I'd say but not in large enough amounts / unexpected enough to cause a crash normally.

Driving home at 2am tired is a driving miss daisy scenario I reckon because tiredness can be as bad as being drunk in my experience.

Type R, inexperienced with the car, dark, wet,, mis matched tyres, M60 ring sticker.

Ends up sideways in a barrier, covers most stereotypes I'm afraid!

I think we are forgetting something here - he 'does a bit of trading' so is obviously an experienced motor industry professional. I see no reason not to take his story at face value and feel people are being very harsh here.

The OP is unhurt which is a plus. The dead CTR is a minus !!

Proof that speed limits are just an arbitruary figure set at that limit if all things in nature permit that velocity.

Far better to use your own common sense.

Rain = possible slippery surfaces regardless of what tyres your car is wearing.

Mark it down to experience. You'll be double careful on that bend in the future.

Read was driving sensibly...see a wrecked civic type R. Hmmm. Shame though they are lovely cars and seeing them get written off just further emphasises the stereotype.

I can push mine around corners at speed so it seems strange that yours would just give out at 50mph on a dual carriageway but anything is possible and I doubt you'd have rushed to post about this if you actually felt it was your fault so.

Ouch ... but the crumple zones did their jobs, so be thankful for modern day safety standards.

Its a long time since I've been on the Mancunian Way. Does it still have those stupidly dangerous short filter zones for joining traffic ? It was the kind of road you'd want a traffic jam on so it forces people to slow down and look around.

If it was the road, half the other cars would also be losing control.

If it was cheap tyres and no geo, half the other cars would be losing control also.

I don't buy the story in the slightest.
