I want my own kit. What should I be looking for in a balancing machine?

I'm alright with the changer side of things. Just the balancing machines, some seems to be with MSdos type stuff, lots of different brands etc etc.

I'd just static balance them, I've done it numerous times on cars that have chucked weights and I can't tell any difference between it and the dynamic method.

Hmmm explain further on this static and dynamic part of things.

Not very often but when you need balancing doing or tyres changing not only is £15 each a joke but it's a complete faff going and coming.

I'd rather just have my own stuff and do it myself. You can always sell on the equipment afterwards, always a demand for them.

I've thought about this myself, would be mega handy.

From what i'd seen i'd get a static balancer for not much at all, they seem to do a good enough job for trackdays/rally/drift which is surely the only reason you'd be going through enough tyres to look into it. It was getting the tyres on and off the rims which was the bigger issue when i looked into it.

Getting there :D

1 machine down 1 to go! I like that you can put the tyre on top, do the fixings and cones, and then you just push it over into position as it's on hydraulic hinges!

I see no harm in having one to do it yourself rather than loading it into a car, staring at them whilst they change your tyres. Getting it balanced, revisiting them.

The level of trolling is just not worth it. Trying to communicate with monkeys, **** that.

It's not like I've bought it and it's now worth £0.

I've thought of getting the kit too! £25 each round here for whenever the weights come off or just swapping tyres between rims is a rip off. I could understand it if the fitters were hacked off because you were turning up with internet tyres to save a fortune and wanted them fitting, but they'll do the same even when the tyres you're swapping between rims were originally bought from them in the first place!

Amongst mates I know where I can borrow pretty much any tool, trailer, use of a 4poster, etc from (I can't even remember who's got my engine crane currently)... apart from tyre fitting and balancing. Don't know anyone that has got their own kit!

He couldn't spell balancer so I sniped it up :D

Just bought the weights, £7 for a box of 3kg!

Average weights used per tyre is 50 give or take.

Introvert ftw.

Don't blame you, we're looking at doing similar having 8 cars in the family.

Keep the thread updated as it'll be interesting how you get on once you get the other one.

where are you going to pay £15 a wheel when you've already got the wheel off the car and in your boot ?

i pay £7 a wheel for them to take my wheel off the car , remove my old tyre , fit the one i bought online , balance it and then put it back on the car. this takes maybe 20 minutes for 4 wheels. in this time i just read a paper or browse the web on my phone. certainly no awkwardly staring at them (wtf?) .

plus they do hundreds of tyres a week so i am sure will be doing a better job than me having my first go on a £350+ machine.

just get in a taxi and ask them where they go for tyres...
