Sick of having tyres and balancing done/

Really ****s me off that I no longer have my own workshop.

I did a mates rear brake shoes for him on my drive the other day and was thinking then, "what the **** am I playing at doing this on the floor for at my age.

I think I need to remedy this once and for all.....

Do it! Have a word with that Uncle of yours. If you are into your cars and like getting your hands dirty, some big lifts and machinery in a nice space, will make you a happy chappie. ;)

I fully intend on having a word with a good family friend regarding one of the un-used buildings on his farm at some point... A space for some tools, a second car, and an opportunity to do some learning... :D

I have changed the full suspension on the Slowlo twice, as well as the front disks and pads once, and did the drive-shafts with a little assistance. It wasn't fun. Especially on concrete.

It's not that bad on the floor if you have air tools.

I think Dad has some air tools under the compressor in the garage, but they wouldn't reach, and the compressor is fixed to the wall.

It was alright until I found myself laying on my back, looking up, so that I could see the nut/bolt I was trying to attack, and then being showered with rust and muck before I could escape. :p

And anything under the middle of the car is pretty much a no-go on the driveway. I don't particularly want to trust a pair of axle stands to keep a tonne of metal from falling on my face.

Load test done today.

Tested the car. Arms fit perfectly under the car, like a boss

It was my uncle that pulled the rug out from under my feet on the last one I was building..
I don't want to go down that road again!

Stands are fine, just get good ones. I've had mine for 4 years and used them on cars from sub 1000kg to 1500kg, each one can take two tonnes.

pepsilol - I am jealous of your garage/workshop!

The ones I have *were* good ones, but I believe they are over 25 years old.

I was thinking more of replacing an exhaust or welding anyway, which you wouldn't really be able to do without a lift or a pit.

Actually, thats a point guys. Just dig a big hole and get a light. Job done. :p

Done both of those on stands...I don't see your point? :p

Yes it's easier and much less hassle with a lift or pit but you can strip and rebuild a car at home quite easily using stands etc.

Okay fine, yes you can do both of those things under a car, but it is a million times easier if you don't use stands. You can literally stand under the car, detach the exhaust, and pull it off, then pop it down.

I would also prefer to have loads of room if I'm welding, not be pinned under a car. :p

Not to mention light, so you can stop and pull up your visor to see how it looks.

Stripping and rebuilding a car on ramps/lifts is about a million times more enjoyable than sliding under it on your back every 10 minutes.

I have no intentions of doing anyones else. It's purely for me.

Just like my 2 post ramp, hit a wall with dealing with mechanics. Got my own ramp and just repair it myself.

You'd think that wouldn't you, but it's just not the case.

Depends where you go, I get lots of counter balanced wheels and wheels that have not been balanced at all. Every one charges £10 a wheel here

Is it me or is the posts bending?

What would you have done if it had failed the load test? :D

The load test consisted of driving an Iveco onto it!

A couple of months later my radiator started leaking on the DB9. Dealer wanted £1500 for the job.

Noticed the radiator was off an XK.

Got an XK radiator for £200 and coolant was £20

£1300 saving pretty much paid for the ramp instantly.
