Hi,

I'm running a 4930 now, on my RIVE all under water. Note the 32Gb RAM...

I can't decide if I want to under clock my RAM to 2000mhz to use the 125 Strap with a 36 multi or use a 44/45 multi to get 4.5ghz and run my RAM at 2133mhz.

Just trying to get the temps and the speeds where I want them.

Do you think that 4.5ghz is a reasonable overclock? or should I set my sights a little lower for basic use?

When I'm back home I'll show you what my current BIOS settings are

If it will run at 4.5ghz with the ram at 2133mhz then thats better than running it at 4.5ghz with the ram at 2000mhz, unless you can tighten the timings at 2000mhz.

Have you looked up 8packs x79 ocing guide he helped me lots?

Yeah, I just haven't done much with the straps before...

The main reason I'm asking is because I was using 36x125 until I changed my ram...

I can't push it to 2400 as 8 dims just won't stay stable at that!!!

Just working on getting a stable OC on the 100 strap then, with 2133 ram

I'm having real problems getting a stable overclock on this chip; not sure if it's the bios or the chip tho!

I can up the max multiplier, but if I don't turn off turbo it will blue screen on boot 90% of the time... even with CPU @1.4v
And if turbo is off it will only run at x34 not 44... this is on the 100 strap as well.

8 RAM Modules (with the additional power supply in the motherboard)

RAM timings are 9-11-10-27-2.

Running at 1.725v (Should, in theory run at 2133mhz @ 1.5v)

VCCSA & VTT are both 1.15

Running at 100BLK, 46x @ 1.35v

If I run Prime95 it's stable so long as I don't run the "Blend" where it falls over very quickly, so it appears to be a RAM issue.

Should I look at loosening the timings? Or is it just a case of not enough voltage? Up VCCSA & VTT, or raise the RAM voltage to 1.75?

The problem appears to lie with the 8 DIMM's as most people are having no problems with 4...

Yeah I know, I was mainly running prime to figure if it was the CPU or the RAM

I don't really do anything on my rig that will really stress test it!!! haha!

I guess running a couple of bench tests would help; I can't believe the temps I'm getting tho.

Running at 4.6ghz @ 1.35v I'm getting CPU Temp of 19c idle, and CPU Package of 30c.

Under full load for half an hour no core was over 60c and the package was 63c, CPU 50c.

Unloading the CPU dropped the temps back to 1-2 above idle in 4 seconds!!!
And my D5 pump is only running at around 50% power.

Yep, that appears to have mostly done it I think...

I've upped the RAM Voltage to 1.73v and the VTT & VCCSA to 1.25v

Prime95 still kills it at 46x multi, but I'm going to start with some light gaming this evening and move up from there...

I need to shift the thing out of the kitchen first and it's a leviathan!!!

Use something to monitor what the VTT and VCCSA (if possible) voltages are actually doing especially under load - you might find they are actually dropping out below stable levels at times.

End of the day the IMC may just not be strong enough on that CPU to run 8 stick stable above ~2000MHz.

@ deathjester can you post your ram sticks info at stock(rated), primary timings, speed, volts.

I use the Asus Real bench as a quick indicator of stability, takes around 7 mins, only had 1 program to crash after using this, couple notches of vcore and never had a crash in anything.

It's 2 kits of 4x4GB Corsair Vengance GT 2133mhz

CMT16GX3M4X2133C9

Tested at 2133mhz @ 1.5v
Tested Latency 9-11-10-27-2

I'll take a look at that this evening Rroff, while I run Real Bench.

Hopefully I can get ROG connect running to pull the live data off on my laptop, while running it, so if it does blue screen I should still have the data!

try

strap 125 @129
multi x35
ram speed which ever is closest to 2133
enter primary timings manually as per sticks
rampage tweak mode 3
VTT and SA 1.25v
dram 1.65v
ram on both channels set to optimised in digi
LLC set to high

vcore try at 1.4v and if stable work down
PLL leave on auto but also try 1.65v

set cpu power to 130%

the only 2 timings available on the 125 strap are 2000 or 2400

So it's going to end up being er... whatever the 2000 one is at 129; which I don't recall off the top of my head.

I did have it running on the 125 @ 129, but I switched back to the 100 strap to see if I could get the timings closer to 2133mhz.
