Perhaps a mod could put a simple yes/no poll into this thread for the question in the title.

"Should NVidia drop SLI ?"

This thread is purely about SLI so please don't make any references or comparisons to AMD or C/F.:)

What are your thought about SLI, the reason I ask this is to me it seems like NVidia are not supporting it as much as they did in the past.

For example Attila Total War has had support withdrawn. In the latest Batman game the devs have dropped it.

I have also seen numerous posts where people say that scaling is not what it could be.

So what do you think -

Is SLI past it's sell by date.

Does it still have value.

Is it worth only using a single card.

Do we need it with DX12 on the horizon.

Where does SLI and 2160p stand.

What happens with the arrival of Pascal.

Is the image quality of using SLI up to scratch.

Do games devs want to use it anyway.

Would you buy a secondhand card if it does not have SLI.

Is there any point in NVLink if there is no SLI support.

The above are just a few questions that come to mind but please feel free to raise/discuss any you want to.:)

What do you think ?

I've always seen SLI as a waste, as I thought when it first came out it would offer 2x the performance.

I wouldn't want it gone, but it wouldn't put me off a card if it didn't have SLI as I don't think I'll ever go that route.

My issues with it are that some games come out that SLI is useless, the other issue is frame latency. Unless they ever solve those 2 problems 1 high end card with 1-2 year upgrades will always be better imo.

People who go 4K have little choice though, for the time being at least.

SLI isn't something you can just drop. You know very well it's essential to make games run at very high settings at very high resolutions. From my own experience, the vast majority of the games I play support SLI and it really is flawless in terms of how smooth it runs. Still, I am disappointed that both of those games dropped support since I planned on playing both of them, but they seem to be the exception to the rule when it comes to recent releases.

The main issue though, and this has always been the case, is scaling consistency. I'm confident this will improve since DX12 is on the horizon and VRAM stacking will almost certainly be possible. Devs should also find it easier to code their games to work with SLI by having lower level access to the GPUs. Current trends are also bringing SLI into the forefront, with features like DSR and Gameworks requiring powerful graphics, and high frame rate panels becoming more and more popular. I think the future bodes well overall.

In the end it comes down to this: if I could, I would always take the single GPU option, but right now I want to run my games at ultra settings at 3440x1440, so I simply have no other option than SLI.

Pretty much agree with Mayh3M's post. Have a similar set up and monitor and when it works its pretty glorious. Single card solutions even with the TX does not have enough horsepower to play with settings I want so SLI is the only way.

Personally I think the fact up until recently, plenty of titles AAA in particular get SLI support, it becomes all the more annoying and partly expected (weather this is right or wrong) that other big titles FO4 / Arkham knight for example will come with the support.

On my 2nd SLI build since my 2 8800GTX's and have seen performance improve drastically. Only gripe is that Nvidia seem to get their noses into game development from day one but cannot have a profile ready for release!

Not at all and when it works, which it does in pretty much all games, it is fantastic but for silly things like microstutter that bug me, I would be back right now if that was fixed. Not everyone notices it (or gets it I have to add) but that is the single SLI killer for me.

What they said ^^. I've only used it a few times and have been impressed but it should just work seemlessly. Any games should just work with one, two or more cards.

No, its great when it works. Put more work into drivers/support for new games. I've used sli an awful lot, my first ever pc build featured 6800gt from the off. Didn't even consider one card. I've been through quite a myriad of sli setups since.
