Should NVidia drop SLI, has it had it's day ?

I think what Nvidia are basically saying is. "Please give us MORE money by buying more than 1 of our GPU's, we'll give you worse customer service and we won't bother supporting some really big games."

I've been buying SLI since the GTX 680 came out (680SLI/780SLI/TitanXSLI) and with Nvidia and their lack of interest in the customers that spend 2, 3, sometimes 4 times more than people who buy a normal (High-end) GPU I'm seriously considering going with single GPU next time.

Why can't the Nvidia rep come on here or do an interview and explain the lack of sli support. What is the point of sli of games aren't supported?

It's the lack of DSR support when using SLI and GSync that annoys me most.

By using SLI and GSync I've given nVidia a lot of cash, and they still can't be bothered to let me have DSR.

I wouldn't like to see it go. TBH it's not something I've ever done or plan on doing in the short term but even if they have a dip here and there I'd always be hopeful that one day they pull it out the bag and SLI (like others mentioned) is as close to the dream of getting the full power of both cards as possible (doubt it'll ever happen but as close as possible is good enough).

SLI even if it ends up hit and miss is just an option for those that want it, even if it ends up poorly supported there will still be people willing to throw there money at it for the parts where it works. I personally think it's a bit excessive but until we get to the point where single cards can run games good enough that we don't ever have to worry about needing more grunt then we can kill it. I prefer the smoothness of a single card but others want those shining moments of sheer grunt.

No.

Also using batman as an example, it was made by idiot's, its a total failure and they are doing the bare minimum so not everyone demands a refund.

Although I'm not on sli anymore, I had very few issues with it for the years I did use multi card setups

Don't care, always used single card solution and always will. Can't be bothered with all the hassle with SLI or dual cards. Yea yea works great when it works but its the whole when it works. Now if the support was there then great yea!!

In the latest Batman game the devs have dropped it.

so the scaling of profiles are not always up to scratch, ,it still works and does its job a lot of the time and while it may require tweaking on the users end occasionally it's here to stay.

DX12 might even bring some tangible benefits but we will see

Yes. Let Nvidia earn its "install base' loyalty" by working with developers to optimize games for single card configs at the highest settings. I keep hearing it's a dev issue, but Nvidia is the one that needs to move its market forward, not the devs. What that means is spending more money on customer retention through better experience and less complaining about the devs.

I do wish support was a little better, but to be honest Fallout 4 is only the second time I've not been able to use SLI. The other was in Star Citizen, but that's since been fixed and of course the game isn't out yet. In all other instances it has been perfect.

I can't see SLI it going anywhere as it works for both Nvidia and the end users. Seems like even the most potent single card can never run contemporary games at maximum settings using the current high-end resolution / framerate. I was told that buying two 780s was complete overkill for 1080p, but the reality was if I wanted all the eye candy and a framerate to work a 144Hz monitor a single card wasn't always enough. I've now moved to 1440p / 144Hz and my cards (very roughly equivalent to a single Titan X / 980Ti) are falling short of the quality / FPS I'd like.

I'm now planning to get a 980Ti, and the main deciding factor as to which I choose is how suitable it'll be for SLI use when I buy another!

Multi GPU setups will only come into their own and work well with explicit multi gpu.

Hence needing low abstraction api's. But it will take a little time for code to start floating around for good multi gpu and for developers to get the hang of it.

SLI/Xfire as it stands has always been a shoddy bolt-on to DX.

Pretty neutral on the matter, Don't care either way, If they can sort out microstutter and scaling then yay but if not well it's not a great loss to me either, I always prefer single GPU systems anyway :)

They did sort out microstutter and scaling a long time ago.

But like I said it's too much work. It can be done... but not many new games bother.

No

Every single game I play has run fine and had support with SLI (apart from fallout 4). And it really makes a difference especially if your running 1080/1440p 144hz or 4k and benefit from the extra power. Yes there could and should be better support in some games. But most run fine.

I think the only time we won't need SLI is when GPUs are so powerful there really isn't any point in getting another.
