Just tried to iNdependance method, during the activation it was creating a RAM disk and then after it gave me a error message: 'error in accessing recovery mode'
Know what's wrong?
Also I bought 2 iphones today, so I have 2 o2 sims, of which I don't know which sim belongs to which phone. How important is it to have that exact sim that came with the phone?
I guess I will try it again with the other o2 sim and see what happens.
LOL, just when I thought my day couldn't get any worse, all I can do is laugh.
Gave iNdependence a go, it activated my iPhone. Then I did the SIM Unlock and after a short while it said SIM Unlock Failed. So I thought alright, but then my iPhone displayed that "Repair Needed" screen. At the moment, I have no Wi-Fi, no reception, nothing. What was a glorified iPod Touch is now the very same but without Wi-Fi.
Upon checking my General settings, it seems my Baseband had actually been erased. Apparently this is quite an achievement. Found a guide here but haven't tried it yet.
The battle continues!
I'd stay away from iNdependence at the moment.
It works, but it's still in beta.. the ZiPhone method is more user-friendly![]()
When the Sim Unlock fails, you have to do it again. Works great the second time. Don't panic mate.
ISOTOPE YOU GENIUS! I owe you a beer mate!! Baseband is back! Other SIMs working! And to think all hope was lost lol. Yeesh!
Doesn't work?
I've unlocked mine using ZiPhone![]()
It does work, but it hasn't worked for Orange SIMs by the looks of it. Just lending a hand.

Check the carrier name
16GB iPhone, unlocked using ZiPhone 2.5
Independace has managed to activate the phone. Now its unlocking it, but seems to be stuck on the screen 'Waiting for SIM unlock', been waiting for 5 mins or so now, does it take this long?
