1.1.3 Firmware for ipod touch.

I'll start off by saying I'm an absolute chump for buying the upgrade, but I did.

The new apps are really cool and work brilliantly. The Google Maps app is SCARY. It managed to pinpoint my street when I told it to find out where I was. Very impressed. All I can think is it must use traceroute or something similar.

All in all, its a good update but about £10 overpriced. Apple get -1 point from me.

On the touch it just triangulates your location from wifi hotspots and so will only work in big cities.

The iPhone might, my iPod Touch certainly doesn't. I'd be interested to see how it works. I did a project on traceroute but never knew it could be that accurate.

I might do a spot of wardriving later and see how good it really is! :p

God I must be bored tonight... :D

Sorry I missed the bit about the touch :o. Would be a good trick if it could find the position by gsm!

I actually decided to update....

I thought long and hard, and I really don't use most of the apps Ive installed. I'd much rather have a less buggy device... which it seems to be as smart playlists now work and it doesn't drop back to the home screen, like it occasionally did.

Did you restore and update or just update ?

There's actually far less response on this than I would have expected... Where the hell is that SDK?

Oh, and those who saved on the comparatively small price difference between an iPod and an iPhone for whatever reason are now being asked to pay more for four applications we should get free? What the hell is this? I went with an iPod because I had a phoen and preferred it thinner. Now the price difference between both pieces of hardware is getting smaller, what the hell's the point?

Four applications we should get free? Why should you get them free?
You bought the iTouch as it was, they have some new stuff for it, why should they give it to you for nothing? Apple is not a charity.
The only reason the phone software was free is because they pay a monthly subscription, so in effect, paying for software updates anyway.

Five applications we should get free? Why should you get them free?

Why should people buying a touch with 1.1.3 get them free in that case then?

That is due out "Late February", which was announced months ago

They shipped the device with no mention of adding additional apps, and you made a decision to buy it based on that.. why get annoyed? Only the iPhone was promised more apps as it's classed under the term subscription model.

Also, £13 is peanuts considering the cost of the iPod touch, and you're getting a hell of a lot of official app for that money. If you aren't willing to pay then you have the option to jailbreak.. as always.
