1.1.3 Firmware for ipod touch.

MobileScrobbler > Spending £13 on apps. :p

Agreed. MobileScrobbler is the only reason why my iPod touch is jail broken. Fantastic app.

I've got the iPhone apps installed but I think they're pretty poo. The mail app is incredibly basic and I'd rather use Google Maps (for free) on my phone. It's also a shame that the weather app doesn't mimic the weather app on the Wii.

Off topic kind of...

Am I right in believing you can access the Internet from anywhere with the iPhone, but with the iPod touch you have to be near a wireless router to connect to the Internet?

:)

Yes, the iPhone can access the 'net through the 02 EDGE & regular mobile network (has unlimited data usage on the iPhone tariffs).

The iPod Touch only has a WiFi chip, so can only access WiFi hotspots.

No problems :)

@ WotDa.. it's more down to if you have a static IP I'd think.

Guys, im about to probabily get an 8gb touch this afternoon, but i'm not sure what all this 'jailbreaking' business is about. I've not followed ipod's for about a year since my 30gb one died on me, so you'll have to excuse my ignorance.

What things will i be able to do on my touch straight from the store? Can i customize and add plug-in type features or what? If not, they what is jailbreaking all about. As far as i was aware, it was simply unlocking iphones so that you weren't tied to O2 contract, but i've heard people doing it for touch's. What gains do you get from this and how easy is it to do?

Sorry for all the long questions, but like most people i like to get the most out of what i have bought.

Thanks.

OzZie-
I haven't got a touch myself but I have been following the jailbreaking scene for about a week as I may get one.

What it does is (I think) unlocks the iPods software which installs an installer app, which allows you to install 3rd party applications such as games and other features such as the E-Mail app, weather and stocks apps which you have to pay ~£13 if you upgrade your touch to 1.1.3 firmware (the installing of apps are done over your Wi-Fi), but if you buy a touch from the shop with 1.1.3 already on it, you will get those £13 apps already installed.

Currently 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 are jailbroken, but 1.1.3 is not yet (I think)
You tube "ipodtouchmaster" he has some good videos on how to do it

If I have anything wrong please correct me! :)

Jailbreaking is a technique used to allow applicatins that so far apple has not provided. Basically it cracks the software on the iTouch and allows you to install applications, which is a feature that the apple software cannot do, which means with the standard software it really is a case of you get what you get out the box.

The touch as it is when you buy it will come with a few apps, jailbreaking it will allow the installation of more apps.

At present, the latest software cannot be jailbroken (It has been jailbroken, but due to complications it has not been released publically yet). This means that if you want to jailbreak it you will need to revert to the old software, and then do it from there.

There is an SDK in the pipes to be released next month IIRC which will allow you to install apps on the official software, but apple are allowing people to charge for the software that will work on the SDK.

Anyone had problems with their touch keeping time since the 1.1.3 update? I keep noticing mine is out by hours but still the same difference an hour later - is my computer shifting it back to 00:00 when I connect it perhaps?

Vista 64 - using iTunes for syncs.

What apps should i install on my 1.1.3?

all i have is:

iphone apps (free) :D

gpSPhone (GBA)

iPhysics.. and thats it
