Thats not a bad quote (assuming you are 17). You could probably get it cheaper a) by ringing them, and b) by shopping around.

yea ill shop around and maybe give them a call and yes im 17

Meh! Thats what normally happens when anybody considering a reasonably large CC engined car (or one with a low pressure turbo which would only generate an extra 40bhp over its NA counterpart) posts on here about having it as their first car!!! :p

i am not that clued up on insurance, but will other company's hnour direct lines no claims?

Kills me paying over £1500 insurcance but at least i know i am fully ocvered and legal

No they will only provide a named driver with NCD if they stay with Direct Line, even after my pleading to get them to send out proof of my claim free driving.

Which sucks, as they won't insure young drivers on a lot of cars.

TBH I should have got my own policy at 17 when I was driving a 1.2 tin box, then I wouldn't of been shafted from behind for the MX-5 insurance.

It's worth thinking long term, if you know that you will want something powerful as your next car then get some NCB now.

You're talking about the Leon Cupra thread. Well I have news for you the NASP 1.8 generates 60BHP less than the cupra (100 less than the R), not 40.

No I was just talking in general terms, but even an extra 60bhp (considering the weight) is harldy anything to crap your pants over!! ;)

I thought he was referring to the A4 1.8T thread? Isn't that 150bhp Vs 110bhp for the 1.8 20v NASP?

You're kidding right?

I don't buy into the whole idea that a reasonably powerful car is automatically a bad idea for a new driver, but I wouldn't try and trash someone's thread to make that point, nor suggest that the 50% extra power in this was a small difference.

Get a quote with Admiral, Elephant and/or Bell (all the same company but give slightly different quotes) with the insurance in your own name and add your mother as a second driver. This will reduce your premium and it's completely above board, unlike insuring the car in your parent's name

£1700 TPFT is a good price for a 17 year old on a 1.8 Focus

Yea how stupid they are, I mean, you can have an F40 or something as your first car these days we all know inexperience and power = perfect.

Well for £4k I got a 1999 Zetec with Climate Pack that had done 50k miles. Though probably now you are talking a 2000 for the same price.
