10 mins in Andriod is a total failure :/

AHAHAHA TRUMPETS....

after much googling it turns out the market doesnt like my googlemail.com bit, changed to gmail.com and gained access.

Glad you got it working :)

Downloaded launcher pro which seems to have removed the motoblur crap from the home screen.

Motoblur will probably be running in the background still, using resources, which is a shame.

Downloaded Opera browser which has pinch-to-zoom

Try Dolphin Browser Mini - Just tried it today and it's easily the best browser on the Market. Tab switching using volume rocker = great!

Downloaded Mercury for msn

Never used it, there's eBuddy though which I used an like a lot if Mercury doesn't satisfy.

I'm flying!

Will have a play tommorrow and calm down, seems I will need to ask a load more questions hehe.

:D

lmao, complete thread turnaround...

But seriously the defy doesn't have multitouch? hopefully you'll get to know Android a bit better and love it, it is a much better all round OS than IOS and as other's said, although Android is very good you can't expect a £200 phone to compete with a £500 phone... Even in the Android ecosystem, the high end devices are excellent!

Glad you got it working, eventually :p

I was going to post, but chose not to as I saw this becoming a flame war :D

Take a look at the essential apps thread, it's quite large though!

Appbrain is a good place to find apps, install their app and it'll sync your device with the apps you install from their site.

Heres my app list http://www.appbrain.com/user/benjo1989/ It's got a few must haves :)

I find iOS to be an operating system that is too restrictive and treats me like an Apple controlled muppet that can't make my own decisions about how it looks and feels

jailbreak ? takes 20 seconds

you seem to have serious issues if you need to call people 'controlled muppets' because they like an OS that you have little experience of

i thought i loved android once too and i will probably go back to it once the gaming and camera abilities improve

i had to rate this five stars for comedy!

Loved the comment about Android coming from an iOS bin

Would read again A+++

Serious though why would anyone choose a defy? Unless its sim free the contract on them is no better than a Desire HD

Try using ebuddy for msn i find that pretty epic..although you do have to create an ebuddy id which is a bit annoying.

The problem with android is its configurability.. HTC use their HTC Sense front end, with nice widgets, good keyboard , good browser and pretty slick performance, out of the box, its the best android experience. You have to spend an age with launcher pro to get it looking and working nicely, but both are massively better then plain old android.

Keep at it, get it looking and laid out as you want it, try smart keyboard pro, or swype to improve the keyboard, what you can achieve in android is beyond iOS, unless you have a HTC, it just takes effort to get there...

The thread title should read "10 mins in Motoblur is a total failure :/" :D

Haha, I did warn you Oxy. I was in a similar state after the first few hours too! It really does turn Android into a pile of ****, on first boot the touch screen was sooo laggy/unresponsive I thought they had swapped it for a resistive screen. :( (no... I really did)
It's got nothing to do with Android or the hardware...

Luckily it's a proper high end phone! The 45nm A8 is capable of running at 1.3Ghz+, it's got a powerVR 530 and a screen only bettered by the iPhone 4. (or sAMOLED if you don't mind a fuzzy pentile display) Sound quality is one of the best around too (including the iPhone)
I love mine to bits and overall it's a definite improvement over the standard Desire (once the software's been sorted out. :))

Oxy, if your planning on keeping it (wouldn't blame you if you didn't, SenseUI/iOS are on a different planet if you don't want to mess around)

The first thing you should do is,
Settings > Privacy Settings > Factory data reset (doing this improved my performance no end)
Also Settings > Language & keyboard > Input method > Multi touch keyboard (It's a nice iOS grade keyboard, swype can be a bit confusing at first)
Then install LauncherPro (+ WidgetLocker to get rid of the laggsville lock screen)
I'd also recommend xScope 6 (or Dolphin Browser HD) to download any files from the internet. It comes with the standard Android browser, which has pinch to zoom, you were probably just on a mobile site which has it turned off, same for the stock iOS browser too :p

Then, using one of those browsers, hit up XDA and download z4root 1.3 Once downloaded install the .apk and permanent root the phone (it can be unrooted/reset to factory settings v.easily)
Download Milestone overclock from the market and overclock it to a standard 1Ghz/56vsel.

Sanity restored!

Then comes the task of deleting those nasty Motorola bloat apks for total lag free operation. (best leave that for later though)

lol your kidding right? Where can you get the DHD free on a £15pm standard contract?

Its a cheap phone, can't really compare it to an iphone, try a Desire HD and i'm pretty sure you'll be blown away by the speed, quality of screen and ease of use.

The Defy will get over 2000 in quadrant once updated to 2.2 (currently 1400+ running 2.1) All these 45nm A8s + decent gpu have the same performance. Oh and the Defys screen is miles better than the DHDs (only the size is better ;))

i thouht the defy was mainly £20-£25 per month on 2 year contract. If its only £15 you cant moan.

My DHD is £25 a month but £113 for the phone

haha funny the turn around.

I have a x10 mini pro, obviously the phone is tiny in comparison to other Android phones
and not as powerful but I really like the phone all the same.

You mentioned you had problems with your googlemail.com and had to change to gmail.com

I have never had that problem, or any problem in fact with the googlemail bit... strange

There is your problem then, bad handset.

Your statement is of course based on your experience of using one.

I've got one and its superb. The MotoBlur rubbish thats stuck over the top however is cack.

It easily on a par with the Desire once you've got Launcher Pro on it and for things such as gaming its actually better than the Desire due to it having a Power VR SGX530 integrated GPU which the Desire does not.

And to the OP: My Defy supported pinch zoom from the outset pretty sure yours would have to.
