Just a shame that it's not perfect choice

Gaming - ok it's 144hz, and a res you can get good framerate, but you will need to use AA. Wheras if you had a high PPI monitor you can use no AA, so offset of higher resolution is offset with no AA

Desktop - low resolution for the size.

I think 29" UW 2560x1080 is ideal PPI, shame the 29" version isn't 144hz and with wide range of freesync

I can wholeheartedly recommend this monitor if it's for gaming and movies first. For gaming it's stunning with beautiful motion handling. The contrast and deep black level puts monitors costing double the price to shame.

The ppi is not a problem provided you sit more than 60cm away. I sat 80-100cm away when I used one to take in the sheer size and it looked great.

There is a bit of scaremongering over the ppi in forums and the use of aa is game and preference dependent. Some game engines require more aa than what's on offer sometimes and some don't even at higher resolutions.

Higher resolutions is preferred of course especially for productive work related tasks but this is a gaming monitor primarily and at that price it's unbeatable.

It was a steal under £500 anyway nevermind £100 off. Wow.:D

Good deal I think, I would have probably bought this had I not just bought a new monitor (27" / 2560x1440 / 144hz) last week. I have crap eyesight so not too bothered about low PPI; my screen is probably on the lower limit for default text size. In terms of usuable screen space, 2560x1080 isn't that bad, it's basically 1080p but with an extra 640 pixels of width. That said, I don't think I would get on with ultrawide.

just wish this was 1440p. OK I'll give good fps now, but I keep monitors for years, so I'd rather drop detail settings but play at 1440p and then when I get a new gaming PC 3440x1440p is the norm for mid range GPU's.

Also I prefer not to use AA, so again higher res means less need to use it, and get the better detail because of the higher res.

On the flipside tweaking AA is generally more acceptable than running a monitor outside of native resolution in fullscreen; with a low resolution monitor you can typically disable AA to get more performance, whereas on a high resolution monitor you can't really drop the resolution that effectively (although I am keen to see what 1280x720 looks like on a 2560x1440 screen, as in theory it should just mean 4 physical pixels per 1 virtual pixel and thus give a visual that isn't distorted, albeit quite blocky).

i think this falls perfectly into the category of "I want to experience my games better, but do not want to pay £1000 for my monitor!"
