£1000 gaming build help

Ordered!

Gone for pretty much what you said stullid but with the wireless adapter and an extra matching WD hdd for raid 0 as that will be my primary store for games. Thanks again for the help and if I have any issues setting it all up on tuesday/wednesday when it turns up, I'll post another thread lol. (fingers crossed I wont have any issues, although its been a very long time since I installed RAID 0 and when I did it was with a floppy disk drive lol)

Sweat:D and Marvin will be happy too.

Haha yeah, looks like a solid compromise between the two major specs you both proposed. Been doing some serious reading on IPS panels and they are indeed supposed to be like night and day in difference to TN equivalents so we'll have to see.

Sweat? Gross! :D

Spec looks gooooooood :p

LOL I had to read that twice to catch on, its been a long day! :(

Yeah true and the 580 is probably overkill for the res. I keep hearing the age old argument of "future proofing" in my head which is making me look at the "best" components which I know for a fact isn't strictly needed, just a matter of telling myself that lol.

Yeah, there's no need to future proof if you can build computers yourself really, it is literally a case of replacing the GPU when the time comes. It's the best way to do it in my view. Also, the new line of Ivy will fit the current SB motherboards aswell, there only thing lacking will be the new 7 series chipset. Not sure on how much better they will be anyway, i know PCI-E 3 is coming with the 7 series but no one know how much better it will be.

Most of the stuff got dispatched today apart from the graphics card so I might have to postpone the build by a day or two whilst I actually get all of the components!

Its worth the wait, May 6th its due:)

ouch, need the PC up and running before then sadly :(

Sent a webnote asking if I can switch the card to something else to avoid the wait so we'll see! Got the camera charged for the big box photo and I might go buy some hovis just for the OcUK approval lol.

Ah, good build. I'd have done a few things differently, but they're mainly a personal taste thing. I see you've harvested a fair bit of both my and stulid's builds. Hopefully the 2311H will do you proud :).

If you do change GPU, check this out. It says it's on pre-order on the listings, but the page says they're in stock, so if you do call them you could find out. It's flashable to 6970 specs, though I would just hang around for the £240 GTX570, or switch to the 6950 Twin FrozR III at £225, but either way, I'd wait as the deals are better.

I thought you would be happy I did that.:)

He needs the card before then Marvin:(

i think the stock system is reading wrong, as here - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18269037&page=2

Slade2 saw the MSI 6950 had 1 in stock on its product description page, while the page with the list of all the 69** cards said pre-order, and hes been told he missed out.

also hes been told no more revision 1 cards..it could all be coming to an end with the flashing.

I've stuck a webnote in so far and a post on the customer service bit on here with the same info which I stuck in the note as well but if neither of those get a response I'll give the shop a ring on monday morning (if its open due to bank holiday lol)

With what stulid said (quoted below this) is probably true about the revisions of the cards as I've been noticing more and more threads on this on the graphics card forum in the last month or so. The frozR III is also a rev 2 card if I'm not mistaken with the II as the last rev 1, coupled with flashing is always risky business :P

I thought you would be happy I did that.:)

I think one of the ones in post # 74 is all you got to pick between if you want it before the other cards are due.:(

Most of the stuff turned up today apart from the graphics card and a molex to sata power connector. Looks like the 8 pin ATX12v cable is also far too short on the PSU to reach due to the PSU being mounted at the bottom of the case... Not impressed so far lol. I need an extension cable for it by the looks of it -.-
