£1000 watch?

Aye thats the one thanks. He said it was a special edition that he wanted so much!!

Not unbelieveable, they start at around £2,500.

I dont see the Panerai appeal myself.

Well you should, 'cos they're awesome.

Yeah, something like the Seamaster that Gilly posted and the Tag like Rivey posted.
They are what I kinda had in mind.

I guess there's nothing in it, in terms of "better"? Other than choice?

What is it about this site and watch snobs? I'd noticed this while lurking before I joined.

I'm muck of the earth quality and dont mind my cheap watch is about 1 minute slow after a years use.

Fair play if that's your thing, though, but if you are playing Rich Guy or James Bond, then you really must have the best of everything else to back it up ... like Spie does, or you risk look a wee bit silly IMHO :)

I'm glad I never got into the rat race

I'm not a watch snob... hence my £10 pulsar currently...
However...

As it's my 30th (landmark, in our family) then I've been asked to choose a decent watch as a long lasting gift.

A posh Clock might be a better bet, no?

There are lots of those for commemorative occasions than watches.

If you are after a time piece.

Loving nice watches and having a nice lifestyle do not need to go hand in hand. If you wear a watch to impress or portray an image then I concur, but if you appreciate fine watches for their aesthetic attributes or their build integrity I say it matters little what you have to ‘back it up’...
