So why didnt he know that taking a flash lawyer to a magistrates court is a bit.. OTT?

Fox mate, because thats what people do, they take a solicitor to court.

What he actually said to me before hand was that him representing me wasnt going to make any difference one way or the other, so i thought **** it, what harm then.

Plus im no good at all that standing up speaking politely, id probably swear by accident or get the hump or something.

For speeding offences at the local magistrates court, no, it isn't really what people do. They probably thought you fancied buying your way out of it with your flash car and your fancy lawyer so hammered you even harder. They are vindictive like that.

Your right, im not going to argue, god forbid if there is a next time i will skip the lawyer bit.

Saw some boy racers on the motorway tonight. I say boys but they were in an Aston Martin DB9 and a white M3...I didn't even see them coming, must have been going 140 at the very least. :(

i know someone who did 130 on a dual carrage way, i dont think he had a fine, i know he definatley didnt get more than 3 points anyway

Indeed.

I think the magistrates thought, "look at this moron bringing in a fancy lawyer thinking he'll get off lightly... lets shaft him".

And they did :(

I think it was harsh but at the end of the day, you got caught doing something illegal and you've had to pay the (hefty) price.

does seem harsh. I got caught doing 105mph on the M6 around 12 years ago. It was on my first bike, got caught being a div, no complaints.

6 points, £250 fine and a 2 week ban.

One of my pals went past a trafic cop car at 152 once, they couldnt keep up.

He lost them by turning off the dual carriageway and parked his car and legged it!

maybe worth a try next time if you are doing respecable figures.

Not sure I would though.

Lots of ignorance here..

Nick Freeman I believe is 10k before he farts, hardly value for this offence. When over 100mph many people who need a car for doing what they do will consult a legal council and many will also ask said lawyer to attend court to represent them. Saddly because such offences are very subjective in how they are dealt with taking or not taking a legal brief is not a black and White thing. Friends of mine got done for higher speeds on the M6 toll when more traffic was about and neither got close to this leve of fine and 28 days. Both were well off too, one extremely. Trying to break it down to what was done right and wrong is pointless if you ask me. Another day and another person acting as judge would most likely have seen a different award even if all other elements remained the same.

Thats the problem with our mags these days... You would never know if you are going to fall foul becuase he had a bad round of golf the day before.

My advice however, is always attend these minor things on your own. The courts normally make many more allowances for someone self representing.

Not to mention the fact it doesnt look like you are tryng to buy your way out of it. Not that I think you were.... but to the mags who see this day in day out it would have come accross that way....

What ****ing planet are some of you on?

Its a court, full of solicitors, i took mine, thats what people do when they go to court.

I could have had Jesus Christ representing me in front of that bench, the result would have been the same.

My solicitor is well known in London circles, not some poxy ***** ridden kent magistrates, down there hes just another solicitor representing another person, i didnt break out a 2k suit and a pair of Pradas for this, i even took off my watch.

Im not the most eloquent speaker, and im quite sure had i represented myself the result would have been the same, at least i got a lift home for my troubles.

As for you Tango, these days they use helecopters to chase people, and i didnt really fancy turning a fine into a 12 month holiday in Canterbury prison.

Well that was a liberty this monrning.

2k fine, 42 day ban, 50 quid costs and 15 quid victim surcharge. Plus 400 quid my solicitor.

Victim my arse, the only victim here is me.

3am NOTHING except me and a copper on the motorway in a 1 year old Porsche, what the **** was i going to crash into.

No driving offences for 20 years to boot, that really has ****ed me off, 3 green grocer ****ers. Magistrates my arse.

Man that is very harsh  Its reason like this that sometimes makes me think its more beneficial to be a cheat in this country! Look at the people who cheat the benefit system and the chavs who steal cars..............the fines are nothing more than a slap on the wrist.

lol

Fair enough if you think you did all you could, but it seems to me that there must must have been SOMEthing that set them off.

Honestly i didnt stride in there with my chest out, i said about 12 words to confirm my name etc.

Im finding it hard to see how anyone can take offence at gemologist for a job title (he left out company director bit) its not like im a footballer.

I was wearing a pair of Jeans and a jacket, smart casual.

As everyone else has said - i think your "punishment" is very harsh and does not fit the "crime" - 104 is nothing in a car that can do those speeds easily.

104 in a Fiat Punto = Suicide practice
104 in a Porsche = Snooze fest.

Magistrates sound like they were being utter ****s that day. I guess you've just gotta do your time now and move on.
