Tamiya = Cheap tat for pre-teens.

Get yourself a decent branded car, HPI, Xray, Schumacher, Losi, Associated etc etc etc

They look a bit complicated for me, try and see if you can pick a good 4 wheel drive one, not to hard to build.

What else do i need those crystals and servos etc?

For a decent kit, you'll need the full spectrum of electronics.

So, electronic speed controller, steering servo, batteries, receiver, transmitter.

Now depending on if you get a 27MHz/40MHz or 2.4GHz transmitter/receiver combo, you may or may not need crystals (2.4GHz doesn't use them, you pair the devices together muchlike bluetooth). You should get 1 set of crystals (RX & TX) with your transmitter/receiver combo.

As for "not hard to build", none are particularly difficult, even if they look it. The hardest part IMO is filling shocks without making a mess.

Nice one cheers for that, if you got a minute could you highlight the bits i need on online shop, pick me a 4wd one with the bits i need.

Thanks for that mate, iv got to go with wife to choose floor tiles for an hour now, this is turning into a fun day i can see already :)

I'd probably go for something like this:

Car - http://www.apexmodels.com/gbu0-prodshow/K108.html
Motor/Speedo - http://www.apexmodels.com/gbu0-prodshow/LRP80581.html
Battery - http://www.apexmodels.com/gbu0-prodshow/167000101.html
Charger - http://www.apexmodels.com/gbu0-prodshow/ORI30126.html
Transmitter/Receiver/Servos - http://www.apexmodels.com/gbu0-prodshow/AP202-27.html

Then pick a bodyshell http://www.apexmodels.com/gbu0-catshow/Hpi-bodyshells-1-10ScaleSaloon190mm.html

Obviously, you could go more expensive, or less expensive, depends on how much you want to spend.

Cheaper, drop the LiPo for NiMH batteries and electronics, and use a slow charger for the 7.2v NiMH packs. Drop the brushless motors for old brushed tech. Etc etc

I think he wants an off-roader :p Stuff like that is useless on anything but smooth tarmac or carpet.

Plenty of fun to be had in carparks though. I always found that offroaders are never as good as you expect them to be (especially electronic), get stuck more times than you would like, break with anything more than the lightest of nudges (typically due to the wishbones sticking out from the bodywork), and overall the experience isn't as fun as you have in your mind.

I might be biased as I raced 1/10th and 1/12ths onroad for 10+ years, but still

If I were to suggest offroaders it would be 1/8th scale nitro, and given all the talk about electronics, I assumed that nitro was off the cards.

Had a boatload of fun with my HPI Savage SS which is a 1/8th scale nitro monster truck, problem is they like the fry clutch bells and flywheels if you plug through the tough stuff too much.

I guess you're right, I broke a wishbone every meet with my Factory Team B44 and went through about 4 shock mounts, threw it in the corner and went back to my ancient xxx-s G+. I think maybe a stadium truck would be a good compromise.

Buy a truckload of matches and build one of these mothers:
