104 on the motorway.

did he need his license for his job though ?

you need a very sympathetic magistrate to not get banned for 110 if you've no reason to keep your license.

Only in the sense he has to drive to work which is 45miles there, 45miles back...but there are buses (albeit one at 7am and one at 6pm taking about 1hr 30mins instead of the 40mins in the car).

Well first off it's not a definate ban, though this is likely, either 14 or 28 days. Two of my mates were done for 110 and 115 on the toll road, ironically the second one after he buzed the first just as he had been handed his fine and was pulling off the hard shoulder, missing the unmarked BMW behind!! Both coming back from Anglesy after a Porsche day and in a convoy of Porks so stood out somewhat. I can give you Nick Freemans number, he'll come up with something and charge you an arm and a leg. I'd take the time and fine if I were you. Month off and clean licence at the end of it is worth the hassle I suspect. There for the grace of god and all that...

Ouch, unfortunate. I have a certain number of cars on my do-not-trust list, and the Skoda Octavia is one of them (along with any <4 year old large Volvo).

Hopefully you will get the lightest possible reprimand.

I'll add bog standard looking BMW 5 series and Vauxhall Insignias to that list. Seen unmarked versions of both of those cars on the hard shoulder after they've pulled someone over.

i was caught doing 107 on the motorway at nearly 1am

£70 fine (its means tested so will only be substantially more than that if you earn a lot more than 20k a year) and 28 day ban.

Most they can ban you for is 56 days unless they charge you for dangerous driving or careless driving. Did the officer mention anything about this ?

I just think they are nice around Wakefield....... :D Maybe we had the same copper, i got caught along the M62 from Hull to Wakefield, he offered my 3pts/£60 for 97mph or a day in court with a nice big fine/ban for 117mph, the reason for offering me the fixed penalty was that the m'way wasnt really busy, my driving (apart from the speed) was good and mainly he couldnt be arsed going to court as it meant a load more paperwork for him.

Learnt my lesson from that one and sold the car and bought a slower one and now keep my speed at a more reasonable level.

I will give Mr Freeman a miss and throw myself at the mercy of the court i think.

I shall now proceed to drown my sorrows in the usual manner :)

if you dont need your car for work then what about that elederly relative/friend/random from the pub that you often take shopping and to the doctors.

obviously you feel very guilty for ruining the weekly trip to see longtime friends at a coffee morning that they look forward too :( and are very apologetic about your speeding which hasn't happened for 20 years and wont happen again.

I think they have heard all those stories before.

No i shall take it on the chin, set a good example to my fellow ****** having a day out at court too :)

I got a 250 quid fine and 6 points for the same speed. I pleaded guilty in advance, apologised sincerely and explained a ban would cost me my job.

you'll be surprised at the contrasting personalities you'll find in court. On my day i had some big shot with what looked to be a very expensive lawyer with him. they came out very cheerful all laughing and joking so its fair to say he managed to find a loop hole to get him off.

There was also a young american girl, living here with her boyfriend, but she was caught doing 38 in a 30. Had to go to court because she had no english license to put points on.

There was also some ***** boy racer chav, baseball cap and all who looked thoroughly at home.

The rest were just every day people, including some old person who was in front of me who'd been caught drink driving apparently.

What makes 104 so much more dangerous than 94?

Shame really, but you were speeding so have no leg to stand on.:(

gotta draw the line somewhere i suppose. And they drew it at +25 mph over the speed limit (unless its in a 30 when its +20 over the limit for court)

i was never offered the choice. Copper was sat in the dark at the bottom of the hill northbound on the M1 between J40 and J41 (if you know it) he was just in front of the J41 sign hiding in the dark at 1am.

He had no intention of letting me off, he was waiting there for one thing and one thing only - somebody to come down that hill doing more than 95 he could send to court to keep his stats up. Instead of doing real police work and actually chasing tax dodgers and car thieves.

sounds like reasonable grounds for pleading extreme hardship to me. 90 minute commute and miss that buss and you cant go to work today is pretty harsh. As said, he didnt get off lightly, they just doubled / trebled his fine instead of a ban.

I see what you're saying, would be nice if officers used some judgement on things like car type, road conditions, traffic etc, rather than "over 100 and they're getting pulled no matter what", especially on motorways.

I think they do take those things into consideration below 100, they just seem to have a fixation with that number.

Mind you it is too fast, what can you say...

Hmm strange one really, I personally never cruise at 100+ but 3am with delays etc I can understand why one would be in a hurry.

I wasnt even cruising at that speed, i was just having a quick burst, i was doing a steady 80 before.

See that's even worse! If they observed you for a while they obviously knew you didn't just have your foot to the floor. More like they sat there waiting for you to go over 100 and thought yup time to pull over. Trouble is you can't blame them and you were speeding; bit of a ****** situation!
