10900k or 5900x - Help!

Unless you're a top eSports competitor I'd go for the 5900X
I was not expecting this ending.
There is a new boss in town now. Zen 3 is the choise for those extra fps above 300.

Also consider 5800X. Suspect benchmarks will show it toe to toe with 5900X, being faster in some games. Mostly because there is no penalty for CCD to CCD communication

The 5900 will NOT beat a properly setup 10600K or 10700K or 10900K, nor be even remotely close. Neither will a 7900XYZ in 2021 or whatever trash AMD releases next year.

Somebody hasn't a clue what they're talking about then. 5900X will be faster per core, and has more cores that any of those intels you mention.

The Ryzen is more of a risk I guess, you know exactly what you are going to get with the Intel.

So Ryzen is a risk a risk because there's no reviews yet? Then why not wait until the reviews are out?

So many people have posted questions like this. Doesn't anybody bother about reviews anymore?

Good point, the reviews are going to be very interesting.

10850k/Meg Unify for under £700 is doing me alright. Overkill at 4K really, but temps are ace at 5ghz+, guess I got a good chip. Zen is bound to be good too but waiting isn't very de rigeur at the mo, lol.

Truth is whichever brand you buy you'll get good performance. The closer it is the more arguing you see on the internet :p Are you under water?

Comments like this make me wonder though....

There is no debate.

There are AMD Fanboy Clowns on Reddit who think they can make any sort of valid justification for AMD in gaming.

People who know what they are doing are on Intel.

YOU won't be able to get a 5900 in a few weeks, because of the bots, scalpers and fanboys.

YOU won't get much higher clocks in the games you play with a 5900. 10-20% improvement, tops.

I'm going to say it one more time.

INTEL 10TH GEN
FAST (LIKE REALLY FAST) RAM
GOOD COOLER (PUSH PULL INTAKE AIO)
OVERCLOCK IT.
Sound like clueless and salty Intel idiots crying because AMD have finally battered them in every metric.

If you've already ordered the motherboard then just stick with AMD. It will be better than current Intel Comet Lake and it will be better than upcoming Rocket Lake.

Which Ryzen 5000 CPU you buy depends on availability of course, so wait for launch and reviews. But then, going for the 5900X means you won't have to worry about anything for a long-ass time.

I knew I wouldn't be able to get an AMD CPU at launch, and I couldn't really wait much longer due to selling my TR 3960X so I just got myself a 10700k. I've got the board now for 11th gen so will see what they release. I don't have any regrets. I did consider a 10900k but from looking at reviews and benchmarks, there really isn't an awful lot in it. Heck, I should have probably just got a 10600k.

How did you know this?

I'm basing it on nearly every recent launch of new tech and scalpers/bots getting nearly every part available and everywhere being out of stock. I also would have been without a gaming PC until they're released which I wasn't keen on.

In all likelihood they will be about even in gaming anyway unless you play CSGO or LoL as all the other benchmarks showed a 5% lead on stock intel which will likely disappear with an overclock.

I game at 3440x1440 so I am GPU bound anyway, hence a 10600k would probably have worked just as well. I'm looking forward to what Intel do with 11th gen. I'm neither an Intel or AMD fan, I buy what's right for me at the time of purchase. It's great that there's healthy competition now.

£470 retail for the I9-10900K retail. £60 cheaper that 5900X, higher clocked and includes a cooler (i think)
When are benchmarks released? Interested to know how the 5900X stacks up against this as blue option could be £160 cheaper after buying a HSF / cooler

dont think a cooler is included on any of the K SKU CPUs.

Thanks. Stupid question maybe, i have a noctua nh- u12 hsf on my i7 4790k. Would this fit onto the 10900k or zen2 / zen 3? Cpus are about the same size but expect the fixings on motherboards will change (probably on purpose to make everyone spend another ~£100 or so)

That's odd I got a 3700X on release and an X570 Aorus Master and a 5700XT. I must have been very lucky getting three out of three :)

You are right obviously. But after reading Zen 2 was out of stock for months, if Im going to get one, I likely need to be trying to buy as soon as it releases. If it months before I can get one, then im back to 'should I wait for 11th Gen' etc.

Look at the 3080s, who waited for a review of those? Ive still not seen one for the FTW Ultra I bought on release. Sadly with stock and demand the way it is, doesnt seem to be you can buy a day or 2 after. At least with the 3080.
People on here were saying motherboards would dry up due to zen 3 demand etc!

Everyones responses have put my mind at ease. Ill stick with the 5900X.

I'm in the same boat. Have been running my 6700k @4.6ghz for years now and itching for an upgrade. I've looked at all the Intel options, but I've made my mind up to give AMD a go with the new release, so I've bought a new mobo, ram, m2 drive and power supply (for if I ever manage to pick up an rtx3080)
Fingers crossed I can pickup a 5900x on release day :o:rolleyes:
