ntl can pretty much guarantee the 10 meg speed.

as cables different from adsl

see that green box in your street, think of that as your exchange

ntl can guarantee a 10Mbit connection to the green box in the same way that 2Mbit (or whatever) can be guaranteed to the BT exchange with ADSL.

Neither of those 'guarantees' mean anything with regards to actual download/throughput speeds though.

Only really worth testing pings with a packet the size of the mtu.

try ping www.bbc.co.uk -l 1500 (but reduce the 1500 untill you get a reply.
