10th gen. Comet Lake outselling many Rocketlake CPUs

10 core is more beneficial to what I do, plus my 10900k runs all core at 5.4Ghz no problems with 360mm aio and temp never hits 90 under full load

I can get my 10900K at just about OK temps at 5.2 all core on a 280mm AIO, but 5.1 works at much lower voltage and temps so I'm happy with that, and its surprisingly not bad during summer for the heat output either (maintains sub 75c in the Phanteks ITX case that can also fit a 280mm AIO). Lack of triple slot for GPU is the main problem I have right now, but I cant get any GPU anyway so leaving that until next gen too.

Much more interested in getting a third low end rig set up soon, Alder Lake should be out by the end of this year though, as well as Ryzen 5 with iGPU, but they still use Vega graphics, but I'd rather wait for those first.

For gaming, intel chips don't perform better From gen 9. Despicable Intel! Even gets worse at 4k , you'll see 2fps difference with older and newer chips in 90% of games and were the gap is bigger you would already be getting more than 60fps, like Doom Eternal.

8700/8700K performs the same as any 9th/10th gen 6 core at the same clocks, too. The 11th gen does seem to pull ahead in some rare scenarios.

Didn't mean to exclude 8th Gen as just have not had one, but that's correct, from the 8th Gen, Intel didn't seem to have improved their chips for gaming, at least at 4k. There are really small differences in fps and this does not warrant an upgrade.

For Gen 11, the difference is also small, just the PCIE 4.0 and faster M2 storage could add the odd fps and make it a worthy upgrade, plus the new architecture gives small gains. But , if you are a gamer, at least now you won't see much fps gain at 4k . The 11th Gen chips have less cores and threads than 10th Gen:cry:.

I am going to give AMD a shot on next upgrade cycle.

I will say that 11th gen has caught up to AMD a lot in multicore operations and production workloads @ double the power :D

But for gaming the benchmarks show no significant gaming performance difference over 9th and 10th gen cpus.

At least with AMD it's an alternative choice. Intel were even putting Avengers on the boxes of their 10th Gen CPUs, branding it like some sort of gaming chip , when it performed no better in gaming than the 8th and 9th gen CPUs, also these chips are still very costly.

Definitely not worth an upgrade to 10th or 11th Gen if you have 9th Gen.

I'm hearing AMD Ryzen 9 are even spanking them

i own the 10850k and have done so since march it is on a asus rog maximus12 board with 32gb ddr4 @3.2 gpu is an msi rtx3080 suprim x . this set is great in all games got 100fps in ac valhalla at 1440p no problem

Have you tried vallalla at 4k? 1440 and 1080p are not a problem for a 3080.

I have both 10th and 9th gen intel cpus and they are the same performance in 99% of my games at 4k. Intel need to step up big or my next cpu is an AMD

I guess the reason I wanted to find out if Comet Lake were generally still outselling Rocketlake, is that it shows if Intel can sell sidegrades as next gen products and still sell more than the last gen.

Usually, companies would avoid selling last gen products, as it's bad for business. Anyway, I'm glad that they aren't selling particularly well, although I think the Ryzen 5000 series has a lot to do with this.
I think it's probably part of a strategy to have multiple generations for sale alongside each other, where they share the same socket. People seem determined to brand Rocketlake a flop but you could argue it's just a refresh of the lineup to maintain interest, they don't care if they are selling Comets or Rockets, as long as people aren't buying Ryzen.

Always better to get the newest in my opinion because most of the public only understand if its a i3, i5, i7 and what Gen it is. Much easier to sell it later on if a Gen newer when you want to upgrade
