13 year old gives birth.

She should be legally obliged to tell the authorities who the father is and then both of them should be prosecuted for underage sex. They have to leran that the law is there for a reason - to protect them from just such events. :(
bah read the reply properly. You cant prosecute them for both being underage.

Where are the mothers is this case? Don't they look after their kids?
The last underage pregnancy story (remember the 3 sisters, all under 16 and all pregnant), the mother let the boyfriends stay over.

LOL, this is an extremely stereotypical response, parents of 13 year old children obviously do have their responsibilites but they can't watch their children 24/7 365 days a year.

For all we know it was a "one off" and it was a moment of stupidity, we all make mistakes unfortunately this is one of those mistakes that you can't just walk away from and put down to experience.

Silly woman, i'm nearly 18 and even now when Oli stays over he sleeps in a separate room. Although that just might be my over zelous parents. Surly she would have told her mum she'd had sex.

I know you're joking, but what kind of parent lets 13year old kids have sex with permission, under their roof?

Because the law doesn't really cover it if you wanted to go after every person that had sex underage you'd be there a long time. The law only really steps i if one is over 16 and the other under and the parents prosecute for rape.

So if two people want to have sex they will and nothing on gods earth will stop them (we all know what it's like to tell a teenager "no") For a parent the question then arises well if I know it's going to happen where would I rather the event take place.

1. In the back of a car/park/alley etc.
2. In the safety of you're home
3. Tell the teenager you "forbid" it (see 1) ;)

My favorite line,

"I don't want him looking after her. He wasn't the nicest boy in the world, and I think we will be better off without him," she said.

The entire situation is wrong on so many levels, but society will put up with it due to the Flanders of this world screaming "Think of the Children!"

How long till we hear that its not her fault or her parents, I bet they blame the school again, inadequate sex education, unsupportive teachers, you now, same old excuse.

If it wasnt under there roof it would be in a bush, on the street, in a car, in an ally way, at a park even at school.

The sad thing is that this is going to keep happening and parents have no way to stop them from doing it :(
And as soon as alcohol gets involved it gets worse :(

Yeah sorry about that (I'm a parent), it's really not black and white and all the moral indignation in the world will ever change the fact that this stuff happens, also that parents have to make hard decisions on a daily basis and sometimes they might make the wrong ones (shock!)

So if the boy was 16 and not 15 there would be a case? Madness.

I don't consider 'being there a long time' as a valid excuse for ignoring a law. Perhaps if some of these cases were prosecuted it would set an example to the young people of today who, quite frankly, either act like feral animals rutting at every opportunity or are so stupid that they are not aware of the basic biological function that sex actually represents.

Is there a legal basis behind ignoring the law if both parties are underage?
