1366 X58 Xeon 5650

Finally got mine installed, straight in at 200BLK (4ghz) stock volts, got it doing some 3d renders to check stability (it's what the PC is for, if it renders fine, it works fine)

I know this has been mentioned before but my ram in CPUZ is only listed as 800mhz even though I have it manually set to 1600 in the BIOS.

NB Freq: 3200MHz
DRAM Freq: 800MHz
FSB:DRAM: 2:8

Does this mean there's a ratio wrong somewhere in BIOS that's forcing the ram to run at 1/4 speed or am I just reading this wrong?

As its DDR (*double* data rate), try taking 800 and multiplying by two and see what you think :p

Also, I just fitted an x5670 to my P6TD Deluxe tonight, still running tests on stock to make sure it's fine before playing. Here's hoping it's better than my 960 (could just about manage 3.4 without silly voltages).

How do people feel about Real temp reports of 52c max during intel burn test? (stock 2.9). I have an old cogage cooler and it has those spiteful plastic push pins but I don't really want to change it now it's back on :p

Just thought I'd double check, knew what DDR meant but when it was showing the ratio which was different before I fixed the ram to 1600 instead of auto.

9 Hour render finished this morning successfully, first time using PWM on the heatsink fans (always had manual controllers but new case doesn't have space for them), stayed quiet all night. Fantastic upgrade for the price :)

Do you guys think a temp of 39 when idle is too high? (My 5650 is OCed to 20x100 [4GHz] at 1.325 Vcore, Turbo boost off, on an EX58-UD5 with a Titan Fenrir air cooler.) Funny thing is that load temps are only about 63, which I'm reasonably happy with.

I'm agonising over whether to replace the air cooler with a Corsair H90 or H100i, or summat.

Ginga

So, serious question all you people who are upgrading. Would anyone be willing to stick their old i7 in a jiffy bag and post it to me so I can try and update my BIOS? Will send it back afterwards and can PayPal gift you a token amount for the postage if you like. :)

Have you managed to sort out anything yet Acme?

My 5650 is hopefully stable (ran several IntelBurn Tests from standard to max and it's passed all so far + 1hr session of Prime95) so I could loan you my 950.

I was trying to clock a 5650 in a p6t deluxe v2 today.

Not having much luck though. With the qpi voltage at 1.35v anything over 180 bclk and the system crashes when it gets to windows. I tried 200bclk and it doesn't load windows at all.

What affects getting to 200 bclk? Is it the motherboard or the CPU that is the limiting factor?

Thanks

Isolate the bclk by using a low multiplier 14x190 (2660MHz), also isolate the ram from the bclk, lower the memory multiplier to a lower setting.

Now raise your CPU VTT voltage and IOH voltage. (I think qpi is the same as the CPU VTT ? can someone confirm this?)

Having a little difficulty getting 4.2 on bclk of 200 with x5670. Currently almost stable at 1.306v but I had an error in IBT after 5 hours :(

So close! 4.4 is out though, even at 1.35, there must be a stable 4.2 with just a little more voltage. Getting 70c with IBT max (6 threads, affinity to 6 cores, makes it hotter than "all").

I use Asus Realbench once. If I make it through that a CPU is desktop stable. IE - everything you would want to do with a PC (encoding, graphics, multi tasking ETC).

I've never had that fail on me. I just run through it once, if it makes it temp wise it's usually golden.

Never kept an overclock with an error, don't like the idea of where a miscalculation could turn up :p

This chip is actually ok, most of the ones I had in the past were terrible, the i960 couldn't manage 3.6. Once had a PII 450 with an overclock to 464 :D

I think this is going to be close enough :)

P6TD Deluxe

21x Multiplier
200 Bclk
1.3125 Vcore
1.2875 QPI

Everything else stock minimum voltages

Try again!

Managed 8 hours without a single error, but then it rebooted in the night during testing :|

Upped the QPI one more notch and testing again :)
