14 year old arrested for bringing in homemade clock

he's just a typical14 year old lad who thought he'd make himself look cool in front of his mates and it went pear shaped - although as a result of the media fart storm he's come out of it pretty well off!

Yeah, i think he's had over £10k of computer freebies so far but it might be a lot more now.

ah I didn't know this, cheers.

still, my own gut feeling has always been that the kid was just acting the maggot so to speak - not trying to justify how the police handled the whole thing but the kid certainly ain't the innocent genius that the media is now making him out to be imo

It is just a right wing equivalent to the Huffington Post. The Huffington Post isn't automatically discounted because it is left wing.

The kid is a complete fraud, He never invented anything or put anything together for that matter, He simply took an existing clock out of it's casing and put it into a stationary box -

Yep, and undeservedly

His dad is a part of some islamaphobe shouting group too.

Awesome.

Bet you anything that if he was a white christian not a peep would have been heard about this.

Which reminds me, I'm going to take apart a laptop and put it into a small metal case with a lid and claim it as my invention, Wonder if I'll get an invitation from the whitehouse ??? XD

Why exactly does it matter he just disassembled a clock? The point of the story is what happened, not whether he is a genius or not.

Facebook, White House et al don't think he is the next Einstein. They are defending him and other people's rights to not have people treat you with prejudice.

I dissassembled things when I was younger. I didn't see it as something to tell my teachers about, but if this kid wants to, so what?

What is it with American conservatives and character assassination of a 14 year old who has done nothing wrong?

It matters because he's getting invited to study at MIT when he graduates high school, Why ? Because someone thought he had a bomb ? Does this mean everyone in the world who gets wrongfully accused should get free scholarships to MIT, Yale etc... ?

Lol. So it's unfair. Is that now what this entire story is about?

It's funny how racial stereotyping and potentially illegal actions of the police has now taken a back seat to.

"This kid ain't a qualified engineer, what a liar".

"Its unfair MIT, Facebook are being nice to him".

Agreed.

LOLZ ROFLZ LOLZ OMG.......

The whole thing just stinks to me.

Don't worry you should hop on the American conservative bandwagon.

Obama, Google, Microsoft, MIT are just trying to use this to peddle their Liberal agendas and denounce Conservative states. They will ruin America, bla bla. They want to tar the police, bla bla. They want to promote diversity and immigration when obviously it's so bad, bla bla.

I wonder if this is even a false flag event to do this. I have proof, this kid didn't print the circuit board himself, build his own LCD display, melt and shape his own wires. What kid takes stuff he's put together into school and show his engineering teacher? How weird is that?

His actions were "terrorist like" AND is his name was Mohammed, how scary is that. The police were right. Also why would he only say it was a clock, he was just being obstructive. It doesn't matter he had a right for his parents (adults) or legal representation before talking to the police. Those rights read out to you before arrest are just for Hollywood.

This is nothing but a racial false flag event to cause a distraction and cause further racial divide.

I couldn't care less if he was from mars, The whole thing stinks.

Even if all he did was take the clock and put it into a new enclosure, he has probably done something that only a small percentage of his pier group did, namely showed an interest in how things work (and get it moved into a new case without breaking it).

You just have to look at the responses of various teachers and police involved to get an idea of how poorly people understand what is inside things they take for granted "it's bomb like, it had a board and wires and a display and stuff" to paraphrase one of the more retarded statements, as that description covers pretty much every single bit of technology with a display from a digital watch to a TV once you open them up.

It's the sort of start that a lot of engineers and mechanics have - they don't go and build a new car as their first project, but might start by pulling something apart to try and see how it works/fix it/change it.

It's an attitude that really should be encouraged given how few people these days seem to be willing to pay any attention to what goes on inside their shiny tech or their pretty vroom vroom (so many people don't seem able to even find the washer fluid bottle on their car...).

This entire forum is predicated on bringing together a group of people that just assemble some things. We have massive discussions on it. I'm guessing most people think it is fun and useful knowledge to have and don't go round bellittling people who claim to have "made" or "built" a PC.

So you reckon if someone posted up in the build logs forum a thread about taking an old pc, lifting it out of its case and stuffing it inside, let's say, a suitcase and then saying 'look guys at the pc i built' they wouldn't get belittled or ridiculed?

Give it a try and tell me how you get on ;)

Because essentially that's what the kid did.

I also don't buy the claims he did it as he was interested in how it all worked. Nonsense. He wouldn't have stripped it out and bunged in a pencil case type thingy.

Of course we shouldn't discourage kids from taking an interest in how things work - but that's not the case here. It'll take some convincing now to displace my belief that it was prank gone wrong.
