14 year old arrested for bringing in homemade clock

Be use publicity really helps out these people who have offered stuff. Yeah right. You are the insane one.

It is very common in society to stand with people who have been wrongly accused and show support,

of course the publicity helps these companies.

are you drunk man, seriously? you think the publicity is of no interest to them?? you think they are doing this solely out of a sense of justice/civic mindedness/anti-racisim??

Conpanys that make millions, are over scrubbed etc. They gain nothing for it.
MOT lose a paying place, which is worth a lot if money, they don't need him, they don't need the publicity.

Adam Savage doesn't need the publicity, simply showing support and offered to show him round the studio.
Such people are well aware of the shortage of stem students and how damaging such accusations are, not just to the individual but society as a hole. It shows it's not acceptable AMD shows people will get support if such things happen again.

Please stop coming out with drunk, high and other utterly retarded statements, it's not a discussion.

you know what, I only said that in jest - but the more I read you posts the more I'm starting to believe you actually are. as for retarded statements - yea everything you have posted so far is pretty much this.

I'm going to leave it at that and debate no further with you on this Glaucus as blind stupidity can not being reasoned with or questioned.

you have your views and I have mine, we'd best leave it at that

The more that comes out, the more dodgy this looks. The fact that it shows zero talent or skill means you have to ask the question what was its purpose? Was it really to impress a teacher? Because I cannot see how an engineering teacher would find putting the inside of a clock inside a pencil case very impressive, if the kid was 6 then maybe.

$15,000 and a shed loads of freebies...utterly unwarranted.

You know what mate? Why does it need to be about talent or skill, the kid showed interest in learning and toying with the idea of taking things apart and changing them, that shows a little interest in engineering then for the school to basically treat him the way it did was wrong.

This kids interest no matter how small shouldn't be put down the way it was. There was prejudice involved by the people that handled the situation and if the media didn't stick there nose in there was a chance this kid would have just been lost to the system.

When you treat young children this way you can discourage them entirely, this kids lost a little innocence from just having had this happen to him.

I am sure this is not the first time or the last that this has happend either.

I think the issue was that there was a narrative set by the media early on that this kid was some kind of genius as he had built a clock all by himself. Everyone belived it. It was an important aspect to his story. As the story grew it become evidant that this was not the case. So people are naturally more sceptical to the rest of the narrative that was given.

However, I do agree with your underlying point that interest in engineering should be encouraged and celebrated

he obviously wanted to impress the English teacher too by plugging in his clock in unsuitable case for a clock in her lesson and letting it bleep... it was totally innocent in his part and he wasn't mucking about in class or trying to prank a teacher at all

(obviously that doesn't mean he deserves handcuffs/juvenile detention etc... or that he planned a big media reaction - but it does seem plausible that he might have wanted to wind up a teacher in class with his dodgy clock)

Well he's now so traumatized by events that he needs $15 million compensation from the school and the city...ohh and hes moved to Qatar now.

:)

Just saw that. Being wrongly accused of something is well... wrong, but $15 million?!? He's having a laugh, he'll be lucky to get anything. Did have sympathy for him, but now i really don't have any as this is just pure greed.

they previously refused to allow the school to reveal details of what went on, presumably if it did go to court in some civil suit then we'll actually be able to hear their side of this incident

I'm not convinced this global notoriety that has damaged him so much would have been an issue if the family hadn't gone searching for it.

What the hell? Why?

cause people have heard of him so they feel all smart when they see a list with people they know in.

if you say heres a list of the most influential people of the year and they're all people no one knows they feel stupid and don't buy your magazine any more.

15 million will be a starting point for haggling an out of court settlement. Lawyers gotta lawyer.

And idiots gotta idiot

His lawyer said in a letter that the incident, which made global headlines, sparked threats against the teenager and left him deeply traumatised.
Ahmed and his family have since moved to Qatar to complete his education.

I'm not saying he deserves anything though because I think he KNOWS WHAT HE WAS DOING.
