I can usually see what people are getting at if they think a car is ugly, even if i disagree. I can't, however, see how someone would think a 156 is butt ugly, sure they might think it's not as good looking as an e46 or a4, but butt ugly? eh?

If a car has a 'radical' feature, some people will think its great looking, others will thin its ugly.

The 156's front end is like this. Some will love it, others can justifiably say its ugly. The advantage to something like this, though, is it can never be called bland..

Sorry, have to agree with Gilly here. The classics are nice cars. But anything in the last decade I woud only take as a gift. And that would be to sell on for the money.

They are BUTT ugly.

I like you :D

Well personally I think style really isn't an Italian car problem. Look how many car makers have looked at the Italians when making something special.

The 156 and 147 although not to everyones taste have aged very well when you compare then to today's cars.

Personally I think BMW should take the crown for the most boring looking cars over the last decade but thats my personal opinion.

Build quality wise Alfas still lack and you can take that from an owner. It has improved but still has a little way to go and a long way off it's German counterparts.

The new Alfas do look promising with their GM based engines and Alfa Twin Spark heads. For once Lotus and Alfa will share the same base engine units.

I've always loved this shot of the 147 GTA. I'm sure its more to do with the photography than the car, but the car looks ace as well.

I'd love one.

Personally I love 'em. Teledial wheels rock too. I test drove one before thinking of getting the mx5 (totally different type of car I know), had the alfa been RWD I might have gone for it. They sounds great, the reliablity has improved a lot over the years (it's still not spectacular, but it's a lot better) - and you're a true petrolhead if you've owned an alfa ;)

Sorry Gilly but this is about the only thing we don't agree on ;)

However classic alfa's do rock. Gilly did I ever take you out in the Alfa? Next time you're in London we must go for a blast in it :)

/\/\/\/\ - thats a 156 GTA

Ive been lucky enough to drive one on an extended basis. It is an amazing car. The engine noise is one of the best, its handling is crisp and sharp but let down by the torque steer being front wheel drive. I think it looks amazing, and the interior is designed superbly as well. It is also seriously fast. I would own one if it wasnt for the fact it was an Alfa.

But I prefer the 156 GTA

Gilly. Seeing as you changed subject to your taste in cars, what cars do you actually like the look of?

Going back to your comments, I don't think the OP asked for what people thought on the looks, but how well they drove. Have you actually driven one?

Everyone has their own taste in cars, but it doesn't mean you can poo-poo every thread that is about a car you don't like the look of.

Don't know about Gilly but most Alfa haters I have met have never even been in one let alone driven any. Most form their opinion on a mate or friend of a friend that had one and it broke down.

Having owned loads of performance cars in the past nothing has quite the same feeling as an Alfa hence why I keep going back to them. All be it my present one has cost me an arm and a leg but that has mainly been down to my own negligence.

THIS Video is must for any Budding 147 GTA owners.

It is a little slow at the beginning and very irresponsible but gives you an idea how awesome this machine really is.
