147GTA

As a family, we had an Alfasud many many moons ago. It was so many moons ago that it was replaced by an A reg' Cavalier.

IIRC, it had a 1.5 litre flat four engine that sounded awesome in a multi-storey car park, even to my nipper sized ears at the time.

Unfortunately it went when the chassis rotted through and it was an MOT failure :(

This is a much better angle for a picture of a Brera though it's a shame it's not in black. That grill and lights storming into your rear view mirror

Gilly. Seeing as you changed subject to your taste in cars, what cars do you actually like the look of?
Plenty, but as you rightly state this thread isn't about my taste in cars. Pray tell, given this point, why are you asking me about it?

Going back to your comments, I don't think the OP asked for what people thought on the looks, but how well they drove. Have you actually driven one?
I wouldn't have commented on the torque steer had I never driven one.

Everyone has their own taste in cars, but it doesn't mean you can poo-poo every thread that is about a car you don't like the look of.
I didn't 'poo-poo' the thread.

Only the car.

Maybe because this is what the thread has turned into, what your taste in cars is. Obviously you are the authority on these things :)

Maybe you can give a more in depth reiview other than "It mings" and "It torque steers". I am sure everyone would appreciate that.

Is there any need for either?

Obviously. But I don't see that the thread has turned into this at all. What other cars have I brought into the thread? I've been asked questions and answered truthfully. If you don't want to read my answers don't read my posts. There's an ignore feature present, and it is there for a reason :)

Been some time since I drove one, and I got a decent blatt in it but not a very extensive one. What else would you like to know? I didn't like the all-round visibility in it, and I wasn't a fan of the layout of the dash either. I commented on the torque steer only because someone had said it wasn't that bad and I thought it was. Is there a problem with this?

This is a public forum in which we share views an opinions. Possibly rubbishing the thread would've been extreme and unnecessary. I don't believe doing so for the subject also qualifies.

Don't know about Gilly but most Alfa haters I have met have never even been in one let alone driven any. Most form their opinion on a mate or friend of a friend that had one and it broke down.

Having owned loads of performance cars in the past nothing has quite the same feeling as an Alfa hence why I keep going back to them. All be it my present one has cost me an arm and a leg but that has mainly been down to my own negligence.

THIS Video is must for any Budding 147 GTA owners.

It is a little slow at the beginning and very irresponsible but gives you an idea how awesome this machine really is.

Thats not fair! Thats an Autodelta 147 3.7. Totally different machine. Although the sound is not far off a standard GTA.

Just to remind all enthusiasts down south that there is a Spring Italian car day at Brooklands Museum, Weybridge, Surrey. It is on Saturday 29th April and is a good day out whether your an owner or not.

Their will be no doubt some 147 GTA owners there so you can ask them yourself.

As an Alfa Romeo GTV owner im astounded at the amount of hearsay you get from people who barely know the model numbers, let alone have sat in, or even actually drove or OWNED an Alfa.

They have loads of niggles, yep - but thats just not why people buy them ...... True the thoughts of something going wrong arent good, but when you sit and rev even the low performance 2 litre twinspark engines or throw one around a bit and appreciate the sitting position, the position of the gearstick, the handling and the tight sound of the engine.... thats when you know you bought a cool car ;)

well said that man!

when i was looking to buy a nearly new car last year i test drove: ford mondeos, focus, vectra, seat leon, audi A4(bit older), golfs, and a alfa 156. they were very simular age, price, speck and milages.

the alfa was so much more exciting to drive (even the diesel), so much more style than any of the others. I made my decision and have never looked back.
I love it and will always love alfas now!

i have never known anyone with the opinions that Gilly has.

Well now you do :)

I doubt I'd rate them so badly if they weren't so ugly. The Fiat Coupe might be an amazing drive but I'll never rate it...

What is it about them that you find so ugly?

what is a good looking car in this class in your opinion?

I don't know, I just don't find them attractive. What is it people prefer Kylie over Danii for? Or Lambos over Ladas? I just can't stand the way they look. I think they're all ugly.

Which class are you talking, the 147? I much prefer the Focus RS and the Golf R32. The 156? I prefer the looks of the 406 Coupe and the Audi/BM range.

Why is it such a big issue that Gilly finds it ugly? I completely disagree with him, but it doesn't make him wrong or his opinion any less valid does it?

everyone should have there own opinion otherwise the world would be very boring. however any thread refering to an alfa in any way will have one person posting how ugly they are! i dont have a big issue, it is a public forum after all.

Freefaller, in that pic is the left hand two of the dark green cars actually a blower Bentley?!?!?!?! The one next to the MG (I believe it's an MG TC, correct? Or is it even MORE valuable and is a modified MGA?).

Hi sorry I missed this post! :o It is an MG (of which type I cannot remember), the other for the life of me I cannot remember!! :o I'll find out and let you know - that was taken about 1 or 2 years ago and I'm afraid my memory isn't what it used to be :p
