• Competitor rules

Please remember that any mention of competitors, hinting at competitors or offering to provide details of competitors will result in an account suspension. The full rules can be found under the 'Terms and Rules' link in the bottom right corner of your screen. Just don't mention competitors in any way, shape or form and you'll be OK.

;)

If 480 does perform just very slightly better than 5870, it means they will never be able able to make a decent 2 chip card with it to really kick 5970.

But to be fair over 500 quid for a graphics card is hardly an investment :)

If you were to give me £420 for my 5970 I will have had it for 3 months and made a bit of cash too ... that's an investment :) I reckon someone would pay it ... But, as you say paying £500 for one don't quite cut it!

£420 for a 2nd hand card is to much, sell me it for £300 so i can sell it for £420 :D

What?

2560*1600 first off :P
AA is still needed at this res, remember screen size goes up with higher resolution, unless we get some how....

1920*1080 needs a load of AA on it, since it tends to be played on far bigger screens than it should be (eg 24") and as such edges show up massively.

meh, more words but i cba

Of course we need AA/AF, its just the current cards offer more than enough. More FPS are what's needed.

silly amounts of pixel density ahoy !

You must be a little behind the times, 2560x1440 on a 27" screen is the new 2560x1600 30". :p

Im currently set up for 2304 x 1440 on a 22".

how did your quote miss a bit of mine, or did you remove it?

I meant that i dont "need" more than about 4 times, hell in crysis I dont even need any, I ONLY notice anything jagged on either single pixel wide lines, the tope of fridge? doors and on one bit of one fence. (well that was on one level). I played through it looking for bits i didnt like lol, shame it doesnt scale to 4 gpus tbh, although i should probably try that again since its been like 6 months or so.

you mean the 27" is the new 16:9 fail size screen that console/film noobs/buffs have got adopted into the PC market, because they dont like "black borders"....even though a bezel is black....and it snot like your losing screen size....

Meh, if its not 16:10 I dont like it, 1.6:1 is golden ratio, its in everythign in the world, its the natural ratio of things. Just like my e-peen is 1.6 to your 1 :P

Granted, it is nice putting on 16xQ AA though, i like older games where i can disable my sli and run 64xQ AA on it, but it doesnt look better, just makes me feel better about having graphics cards that only get used by like 3 games i play lol.

Just to clarify on my original AA/AF post.

I'm sure I read on either beyond3d or xtremesystems news from some long standing well respected individual, that there would be new ways of doing the AA/AF, to improve the actual quality, not just throw a 64X or whatever number at it, but improvements on transparency, super sampling, edge detect and so on.

It would`ve taken a lower price from Nvidia to reduce ATi prices really. It seems that Fermi will be priced quite a few £`s over its performance levels & the 5870/5850 will be the better bang for buck even if marginally slower...makes no business sense at all to lower prices, some people are simply waiting for Fermi regardless of competitors prices - they`ve had months to buy Ati.
