Apparently Nvidia have told retailers in the USA to drop the price to $499.

In other words, it's price war time so grab your handbags.

I have been paying attention, $499 doesn't = £400 over here (especially where gpu's are concerned). I just don't see it coming in at the £400 mark.

Maybe if this was 2001 mate I would agree with you.

However, things are not as horrible as they used to be. Remember, Nvidia have the upper hand as they have the faster card. So, what do you do?

Option 1. Sell it at the same price as the 7970 and put people off with a high price, meaning only the die hards buy it.

Option 2. Price it less than the 7970, exposing AMD, putting them on the back foot and instantly and immediately pretty much stop all sales of the 7970?

This was not a uber part for Nvidia to develop. It was a mid ranged part they got lucky with.
