Question is what CPU do i get to go with it?

Waiting ages but not even thought about CPU requirements yet :P

Might have to order for sat delivery, guess that may be my weekend planned then :)

There are no 7970s for that low from legitimate retailers. Sure, there are some shady sites that seem to be selling.. Try buying form them and I bet they'll take 3 months and then tell you they went under or something after stealing your money.

I ordered yesterday £***. Delivered this morning . Cant say were from but they are legit ..:D

Waiting to see how one of these would compare to my 2-way GTX 260 (core-216) setup.
The only game I really play that would push it is BF3 and still I get 40fps plus on Medium settings.

1920x1200 here by the way

Depends on your cpu requirements. If you'll mainly be gaming without requiring specific encoding performance, then I'd go for the i5 2500K.

This is their top-end GPU, people seem under the illusion that this is their mid-range offering. IT IS NOT.

I don't believe that for one moment, everyone knows this is the GK104 aka GTX 660/670 half fat kepler, which Nvidia got lucky with and are going to rape the wallet. 256bit bus and 2gb ram lol.

AMD will never reduce price of 7970 to sub £300, it's their flasgship card! It may get slightly cheaper but won't be for months. As it stands if all what is said in this thread thus far is true.. the GTX680 is the clear winner.

That's not how the market works, who is going to buy a 7970 over 680 if its the same price when the 680 looks like being 25% faster? It would be a foolish venture charging the same price for an inferior product, better to have some sales at reduced margin then very small sales at a higher margin.

Time will tell though:) Though I have a feeling we may see "MASSIVE CUTS ON AMD 7970" on the same day Kepler goes for sale:)

Just so I can get this clear.

The GTX680 'was' going to be the top end GK110 GPU.
But Nvidia found that their 'GTX670ti' GK104 (for lack of a better name) performed so well that they would call it the GTX680.

I only get confused because isn't the GTX580/570 also a GK104?
So is this really just a souped up GTX580 and not a new GPU at all?

Somebody will read this now and think I am a total n00b lol

totally agree - 2nd hand market for the 7970 should have been massively affected too -so perhaps some bargains out there in the Marketplace :)
