£1850 Budget for Gaming Rig, Monitor snd Rift Bundle.

no worries, i had massive issues with wifi when win10 first launched and had to return every wifi card but seems to have changed now with windows updates and hardware drivers being updated
10 sucks so hard!

What cards did you have? - that is possibly the one problem i've dodged with all their pathetic 'creative' updates on my son's computer.

I, however had ethernet port problems and yet i don't allow windows to update drivers :/ In fact since the news of the INTEL debackle, i don't allow it to update at all now until i know the limiting factor of the fix/patch...

If you wait a few days the price of the Ryzen will be dropping....What you see now is the OCUK price NOT dropped, as per AMD's announcement yesterday.

Depends on exchange rate to of how much. America rebate doesn't always work out the same to UK Distributors and resellers so that also effects time . But yeah should see it knocked down a little :)
Question is, how much will ram prices effect ram kits , SSD and GPU which are set for $20 hike
Save one end lose another, trick being you see ram cheap, you get it :D

Another quick question mate.

How many usb ports will I have with this system? Would it be worth adding that front panel any way to give me more? Is it a complicated job?

Thanks

Lee.

Lee.
Chipset:
  1. 2 x USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-A ports (red) on the back panel
  2. 2 x USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports (available through the internal USB header)
  3. 5 x USB 2.0/1.1 ports (1 port on the back panel, 4 ports available through the internal USB headers)
CPU:
  1. 4 x USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports on the back panel
Or click on the back plate pic in this link - Clicky

Would it be worth adding that front panel any way to give me more? Is it a complicated job?
Personally, yes for the ease of access and convenience - and it's very simple if your case has the facility.

Recommended it a few times on here for front panel VR

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £909.22 (includes shipping: £12.30)

Aorus cards have internal HDMI you plug into the front panel .
The Gaming 3 has two internal USB 3.0 headers so the two case and two panel USB 3.0 plug into it .
As you can see though, Aorus is top tier card along the likes of Strix, FTW, Lightning so you pay extra for it

Guessing your cases has 5.3" which cuts down cost

@orbitalwalsh will certainly cover all your USB needs and keep things neat and tidy.

But if you're only after a couple of extra ports your case will have at least 2 front USB 3 outputs as standard and it's easy to hook up to the header on the motherboard. And there's a good chance your monitor will have a couple too - depending on what you get.

How many do you need?

Or another alternative to the above is buying a USB hub - cheaper and means you keep the clean lines of your case:

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Ok, this is what I have come up with based purely on your suggestions.

I have changed the case to the be quite and added the better 1080ti and also the VR Panel and basket, is the correct? Do I need both? I'm guessing they go together?

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,828.04 (includes shipping: £25.20)

What do you guys thinks? Is everything compatible and is this EVERYTHING? Is the cooling sufficient? I wont be overclocking or anything like that. Will I get all the leads I need to build it? Do I nEed leads to connect the VR panel or any of the other connections?

Sorry again for all the questions but I don't have scobby :-)

Thanks

Lee

Looks solid , can't remember if stock cooler has RGB is that's your thing , would plug into RGB header on the board :)

Stock cooler can handle overclock to 3.7ghz so at stock will be just fine

By RGB do you mean the coloured led strip? And when you use the term header for things like RGB and USB do you mean theres a connector on the mother board that you connect to USB slot alreadtly in the case using a lead of some sort? If so, will the leads to do this come with what ive ordered?

Is there anything ive missed? I dont need pasted do I?

How many USB slots will this config give me with this build?

Is this case plenty big enough?

Thanks Orbs

The board has RGB strip on its side as well as an RGB plug to external RGB sources , I think the stock Ryzen has RGB ring which you can plug into the boards RGB header .
Normally don't use stock ones sorry .

In terms of USB 3.0 , you'll have 4 at the front ;
2 from vr unit and 2 from case .

Back of the board I can't remember but think it's 4+

You'll also have 2 USB 2.0 at the front of the case .

Yep, it's big enough - ability to have another 140mm at the front and 2 on top , with 3x HDD or 6 SSD+

Hi Orbital,

Im going to order tonight, can i quickly check what tools will i need to build? Im going to watch dome youtube videos of build to give myself s idea, are there any you wpuld recommend?

If your paranoid , static wrist panel .
Good screw driver or drives . Nice workspace or floor , and take your time .
A method of building it 'dry' testing it on the Mobo box . Out the board on the box, CPU in, ram stick in, cooler and card with power supply next to it plugged in .
See if it POSTs :)

Nothing worse then spending hours on everything , with perfect cable management to find out something isn't working etc etc

@orbitalwalsh Delivery is tomorrow!! I better get watching some videos!!

I ordered a copy of Windows 10 on USB from OC, is it a case of just having that inserted once built and getting it to boot from USB? Will I then get an option to install it to the SSD?

Also ordered the rift bundle!! Roll on Tomorrow!

Edit: One last thing, what would be the best way of connecting the pc to the monitor? Display port or HDMI? Do these cables come with it or I will need to purchase?

And im guessing im going to need some speakers? i

What I normally do is set boot priority to SSD and with USB stick PLUGGED INTO BACK OF THE BOARD, hit F12 and tell it to boot from USB this once and then install windows .

Others may do it differently, I once set usb to be boot priority one and SSD second and twice with Gigabyte and Asus board , it restarted when installing and wanted me to install it over again and got caught in s loop

Cheers @orbitalwalsh

Am I going to need speakers? It looks like it!

I’ve watched a couple of videos and it looks pretty straight forward.......I hope

Tomorrow’s going to be pretty interesting! What do you use to benchmark once built? I’m interested to see how this is going to score, it should be pretty decent!

Thing screen has basic speakers. Can't remember if rift comes with headphones or if you have to use your own ....

Asus RealBench , FireStrike , cinebench and unigine valley .

Use RealBench for stability testing. Leave it running for 2 hours . FireStrike to bench and see if GPU overclock is stable , cinebench to bench and test if cpu is stable and then unigine valley running for a few cards to lessen any coil whine from GPU/PSU - you'll always get it with Valley, over time it'll dull down and shouldn't be existent in games .
