It's too boring to be Kaby.

After the "5GHZ Zen OC" and Gibbo saying "Over 5000 in stock" my mind is saying Zen. Unless I'm adding 2 and 2 together and making 12.

I think it's Kabylake. Even if Kaby does look a bit dull as a successor to Skylake, Gibbo still needs to hype it as he has to shift numbers to maintain OCUK's reputation as one of the UK's leading hardware retailers. I think the excitement aspect will come from the 8 Pack bundles.

Don't get my wrong though, I'd love for it to be Zen. I can't wait for AMD to (hopefully) end Intel's stagnation of the consumer CPU market. It's been almost 10 years since AMD were competitive in the high end and we've all suffered because of it.

Then that'd just be boring.
With the pound to dollar ratio the pricing will be craptastic for the UK.

But I think you're probably right. :(

I've not really read any threads properly, but I think 8Pack's pretty much confirmed it's Kaby with his posting.
Kaby will obviously be a performer at its point of release, but its just so boring.

If the early benches are true, I honestly can't see a reason for someone upgrading to get a K series Kabylake over a Skylake. I'm not being dramatic either, I honestly can't see a single reason. Clock for clock they're the same, so why get the more expensive one?

From Eteknix's "review" it points to better clocking, which fair enough. But given what the UK pricing will be will nullify that for many.

I see. I can't imagine it's night and day difference from Skylake though, so I guess the question is, whether a few hundred MHz is enough to justify the premium.

Absolutely not - games perform identically with a 4.6Ghz Skylake vs a 5.0Ghz Kabylake. You'd need at least SLI Titan XP to see more than a 1 FPS difference, in games at least.

That said buying delidded CPU's with full warranty is a very nice option, though depends on price premium.

Look at it this way, Kabylake is a let down for a lot of users on this forum, Gibbo will need to sell the units, it makes sense him and 8Pack etc are building hype for it with threads like this and 8Pack mentioning delidded bundles etc.

The demand for Kabylake is going to be good for people on 2500k's etc as its a half decent upgrade with the OC ability of it, but anyone above that is going to be less and less inclined to upgrade to it, but if 8Pack is doing decent binned bundles you will get impulse buyers and fence sitters to take the plunge imho.

It was never going to be Zen, CES i expect them to show Zen off again, maybe even the boost clock and maybe even cooling info with the inbuilt OC stuff it has, they may even mention lower tier Zen products, and potentially mention when we can expect it, i still expect it to be March for Zen release.

I completely agree. As a Skylake owner, I'm not upgrading anytime soon. However, I can't wait to see what AMD come out with. I'm praying to the hardware Gods for something competitive.
