18th, 19th and 20th Footy - CL and UEFA Cup *spoilers* galore! - Nedved still off

Why does half of the country think its a forgone conclusion that Arsenal are in the Final?
The amount of times that the commentators, journalists & pundits, and fans, all made this asumption is annoying.
Dont get me wrong, i want Arsenal to get to the Final.
But with all this complacency that appears to be happening, im half wanting them to get knocked out.

A lot of people were surprised by our last two wins over Real and Juve, where we were underdogs and now think that as we're playing Villa, we are the favourites and should progress to the final.

I don't agree myself, as we've come unstuck when favourites, as our last 3 European finals testify, where we were the underdogs against Parma, but won and were favourites against Zaragoza and Galatasaray and lost both. Even our last two CL quarter finals, we were favourites against Valencia and Chelsea, but lost both of them as well.

I don't think you'll find that Arsene and the team will be complacent though and they'll be more determined than ever to make up for previous European performances.

I'm definitely not saying that Arsenal in the final is a foregone conclusion, in fact I'd say tonight's match will be our toughest match of the CL campaign to date.

I can still see Arsenal getting a 1-0 win tonight which I'd be more than happy to take into the 2nd leg.

Off to Dublin airport to catch my plane over, come on you gooners!

Neither side in the Champions League tie last night played particularly well. Ronaldiniho was always a threat and he did make a fool out of the Milan players a couple of times. But all in all the Milan defence was solid and snuffed out Eto'o for the majority of the game.

I thought Gatusso and Gilardino had bad games to be honest. Gatusso wasn't strong on the ball and Gilardino lacked his usual movement.

The tie is far from over but you have got to think the odds are stacked in Barca's favour at the Camp Nou.

Tonight's tie of Arsenal Villarreal should be a good game. Villarreal have been a surprise package in this years Champions League. They were 200-1 to win it at the start of the competition. Riquelme and Forlan present a danger for the Arsenal midfield and defence and it will be interesting to see how they will cope against them. Arsenal have been playing some tremendous football in the Premiership but have then struggled against the likes of Portsmouth and Blackburn.

Good luck to Arsenal and to any fans going, enjoy your night. European ties are so special so make it a night you remember.

bucharest in the morning, only team news i know off is that chris riggott is suspended and that malcolm christie has flown over and is included in the 21man squad which mclaren has taken.

not sure whether i can see us beating them over ther, even though i know nothing really about steaua but im gunna go for a 1-1 draw and then boro to beat them at the riverside :)

Really looking forward to tonight, got the pizza and beer in the fridge :D

Reckon Arsenal should be able to pull out a win tonight and hopefully we can go on and keep it tight and draw/win in the away leg. Be interesting to see how the lads cope with being favourites though :/

Cannot wait for tonights footballing soirée - I am obviously hoping for a rout by the Gunners at home though I feel a 1-1 draw is on the cards. Hoping that the unit pull together and put on a show as tight as they did in leg 1 against Juve..Though 9 clean sheets in a row is un-thinkable, I dont see why it cant be done? We'll see, it's gonna be a classic.

I think we'll do enough tonight, 2 - 0 or 3 - 1. Don't forget that Villareal had both their first choice centre backs injured at the weekend and they'll be playing 2 defensive mids there instead. I think with all our attacking minded players we'll be able to unlock them pretty well. This obviously requires us to maintain our recent standard in the champs league and will by no means be an easy game.

Glad Barca won though, cant see Arsenal beating Barca if they both get through

In a funny kind of way, i actually think Arsenal would have a better chance against Barca. They would be allowed to play their usual brand of football against Barca therefore making the game a bit like a basketball game! :p

I know what you mean but i cant see Arsenal beating AC if they get to the final

I agree. If we get to the final I reckon we could rip barca apart. It's not the first time this season I've seen them play a rubbish game.

Villareal will be touch. I reckon they will be disaplined to hell. 0-0 at highbury. 1-0 to us away.

Youstolemyname is funny because he's obvioulsy watched the AC/Barca game through some heavily tinted glasses and im shocked at G|mp because for the first time that i can remember, he thinks that an Italian side can beat in English one! :p
