19" Acer AL1916W Widescreen Silver/Black

Well, having tried an ordinary 19'' TFT and a widescreen i much prefer the widescreen. Everything looks so much better! My mate has the 930bf and games don't look as pleasing on the eye as my widescreen. I never thought i would get a widescreen but i am sure glad i did.

I think i'd need to see one in the plastic to be convinced.

But if i did go WS i'd be getting either the:

Acer AL2016Ws 20 (dissapointed no DVI)

Belinea 102035W 20.1 (ahead of all 3)

BenQ FP202W 20 (No good reviews)

These 3 in and aroudn the £300 mark, a little bigger, and probably a bit better quality.

But the Viewsonic gets so good reviews, 50/50.

My one has no DVI as you know. My graphics card has DVI. The picture is awesome even though it has a VGA connection! I bought this TFT because i only had a certian amount of money to spend and i am more than happy with it mate.

Its certainly a consideration, especially at that price, i'm jsut not convinced on WS TBH>

UNTIL I bought my AL1916W, I wasn't convinced either, but now I am. Especially for CounterStrike:Source :)

I would hate to go back to a 4:3 monitor now, everything just seems so much better in widescreen.

This is gonna sound dumb, but can you still bench in 1440x900? You wont be able to get accurate 3dm06 results as the default res of 1280x1024 isnt supported. And would the others run ok in 1024x768?

Ordered mine Yesterday - arrived Today (from OcUK).
I already had the Samsung 913N, which i was impressed with, but wanted a good but cheapish widescreen, with a view to a Duel Monitor setup!!!
I to had my doubts about this Monitor but all were totally unfounded. Already tried it on DoD Source and Bf2.... not a single problem, no blur or ghosting.Games look much better in Widescreen and more natural.... well impressed for the price and its also a nice size. I will defo be getting another for my Duel setup. :D
R@tman, i was dubious like you, but im glad i got it now.
Buying the other one next week!!! :p

I'm thinking about putting a 360 through mine with a KVM switch, but i'm not sure how good it would be... 360 doesn't seem to support any 16:10 resolutions. Would it be any good you think? Might get a bit annoying having the monitor auto-adjusting every time you switch... (if it even works)

Only thing annoying me about the acer is that asides from another 19"w, no other monitor has a 900 vertical res, so stretching apps across both screens with ultramon etc. never looks good.. solution is to get another one i guess :p

The Acer screen mentioned here is without question stunning performance for the money. Get rid of your standard boxed type displays now, and get this baby as the first widescreen jobby. You WILL NOT be dissapointed. Be aware if you play games however, there is a limited amount of games that support widescreen res. A few have been patched, and a few offer native support, but i hate looking at anythink else than widescreen, its like watching black and white tv... pointless !!!! ;)

ok placed my order for 1 should be with me saturday!! :D

My first flatscreen and I'm quite looking forward to it. :)
Sounds stupid and obvious but, when you open it - It is big. Something else when you see it for the first time.

Warning:
May make your CRT look pants when used side by side :p

whoo well i did it

i got one of these babies very impressed picked it up this Morning

really good

i take it theres no driver for this ? it just intalls as a plug and play monitor yes ?

Received my acer from OCUK @ 9.00am this morning (promising start :) ).First impressions of my very first TFT are as follows. Baring in mind I have little knowledge of screens in general so this will be very much a general users opinion of the screen. :)

Positives:

*lots of desk space (obviously)
*nice colour rep
*very clear (i'm seeing more detail in certain images than I ever did with CRT)
*Actual monitor is pleasing to the eye (except for base imo)
*no defects found at all with screen
*nicely balanced (blacks and whites are not over the top)
*no games played as yet but so far I am very pleased and glad I went with this model as for the money it does everything I need from a screen very well!!
*convenient auto setup - plug and play!!

cons:

*only the base and the fact theres no tilt etc available on the screen.

Think an ergotron adj arm will be needed shortly, if it fits. :)

Happy as larry!! :D

If you are on about the Acer 19'' WS TFT, there is a tilt with it. Try it, it may be stiff but there is definitely a tilt.

Any backlight bleed?

Yep, just stiff from being new. Sorted thanks :)

Could do with height adjust but tbh its only very slightly under optimum as far as I can tell.

If light bleed is what I think it is, the answers no. I checked for that when the XP load screen appeared. :)
