19" Acer AL1916W Widescreen Silver/Black

I am thinking of getting the Acer. My mate has one and it looks ace. I Had a Viewsonic 17'' TFT and it had quite a bit of backlight bleed! Also, the stand on it was quite tall too. I prefer the monitor lower anyway.

Let us know what it is like with games mate.

The monitor is supurb. Theres no need to spend stupid amounts on others monitors.

Once you been in widescreen for a week you will look at your old monitor and laugh

What is it like for normal day to day use, crisp text, crisp pictures? Also, games play nice on it? Any problems with backlight bleed?

My first impressions, I would have to agree with camalot.

Here are some ingame shots etc. All work at the 1440x900 except for Fear. That I had to run @ 1152x864.

Fear could do with running higher as the 4:3 option was there with my CRT for 1280x1024. Thats gone now I'm using WS and the next highest res available is 1152x864. Looks good but compared to all the other games i have tried with 1440x900 the ladder/stepping effect is quite prominent.

Think theres a patch but I hav'nt looked for it yet.

I dont think these have scaling either so setting at certain resolutions will stretch..think thats right. I'm not that clued up.

I only play newer games which seem to work fine and at the screens native res. :)

Thanks for that. Good info there. So let us know what you think of it in a few days after you had time to play around with it. Thanks

Saw the none widescreen version of this tft monitor in town this morning, very impressed by the look of it but wasn't running anything other than a static image unfortunately.

I did the exact same thing before I bought mine and I wasn't too impressed with the build quality or the viewing angles but that particular in-store model proved to be inferior to the AL1916W in almost every way.

The Neo-Flex LCD arms from Ergotron are very popular; just ordered one myself :D can't wait. They also do a Neo Flex Stand which looks like it would give you far more movement than the regular one, which is definitely a weak point of the Acer.

So...who uses this monitor for heavy gaming? Ie everything out out and back a few years? As thats pretty much all ill use it for...

Very tempted :D My Crt's colours have just decided to bork so need a monitor for gaming :)

I use mine for gaming on, play oblivion, halflife 2/CS:S battlefield 2 and quake 3 usually for 3 or 4 hours a day, oblivion and HL2 have 1440x900 support, battlefield 2 I had to alter the cmd line to get it to run, quake 3 I still run at 1280x1024 (don't play it much).

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned but http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/masterlist.php is a good site to take a look through, has a list of games and if they have widescreen support.

I have ordered one of these today from OCUK to replace my 20" crt monitor which should look very good next to my shuttle setup. :D

So all in all people are happy? Ive heard blurring can occur in fast paced games, like Ut2004 etc and flying planes in Bf2...

Its the one thing thats pushed me away from Tft's and the like, Crt's just tend to be better at that sort of thing...Dammit :(

GTL runs pretty fast even @ max settings and the blur IMO does'nt effect gameplay. I've just come from a 17inch sony CRT and I prefer the way the game looks and runs on the TFT.

My only prob so far can be seen from the pic below. It was noticeable this evening when I loaded up NFSMW. I then created a black screen to check the whole panel and this is the only area where it is noticeable. It is mildly irritating only with certain dark backgrounds(does'nt do it with the xp loadscreen) and dont think it warrants returning as the next one will probably be the same if not worse, knowing my luck. :)
