Greetings.

I've just installed my new mobo/gfx card and after formatting, my scores in 3dmark 03 seem rather underwhelming. With everything at stock I'm getting ~17200 and with my cpu running at fx55 speeds/card running at XT-X speeds I can only get as high as 17700. This seems a bit low as with my old card (6800 Ultra AGP) I could hit 13700 with everything at stock.

Sorry for using an older 3dmark, it's because it was the only one I ever used with my old card as I'm not a big bencher and I wanted to have a direct comparison between the two. I'm mainly posting this in the hope that someone who's more up to date with ATI cards, their cp settings and the PCI-E format in general can tell me if I'm missing something as I'm rather out of touch having used my old ultra since it's launch.

I'm using the 6.8 cats (cp version) and have the following d3d settings in use when running 3dm:

AA/AF/AF method at application preference.
Texture pref and Mipmap detail at high performance.
VSync always off.

I have the clocks all set correctly thanks to the sticky here using ati tool and full specs are in my sig. All I've changed in the bios has been the cpu speed and I disabled the onboard sound as nothing else seemed amiss there.

Aye, all the mobo drivers from the asus nforce4 cd installed and I use a 460w PSU, the card is on it's own wire (rail?) with nothing else sharing the same lead.

I'd say possibly still some nVidia software on your pc conflicting with the ati ones. That score is low, my pc in sig gets 17941 in 3dmark 03

It's a fresh install - I was going to try and just carry on with my old install but unfortunately XP decided against booting :)

Well that rules that out then. Whats the spec of your psu?? Have a look on the sticker on the side and note down the amps on each rail and post your findings.

Edit: just noticed your using ati tools to control your clock speeds, maybe its not changing from 2d mode to 3d mode properly??? Try uninstalling all your ati drivers and applications and just try the 6.8 cats with the CCC and see what you get then.

+3.3v - 34A
+5 - 40A
+12V1 - 16A
+12V2 - 15A
-12V - 0.8A
+5Sb - 2.5A
+3.3V & 5V - 280W

Total power - 470W.

I initially tried the standard drivers without atitools but that left me with the same score and I'm sure atitools is working as I got the small boost when clocking from XT to XT-X speeds - I also have it play a sound when entering 3d mode.

The two ati processes are also disabled as instructed in the overclocking sticky. This really is baffling me now as I can't think of anything I've done differently with this system compared to any of my other ones after a format.

After uninstalling all the chipset drivers and the ati ones, and reinstalling various display/mobo drivers I'm still on ~17,500 at XT-X speed but stock cpu speed. From what I've seen on various sites I should be aiming for about 19k at those settings, at least it's not that far off I guess but it's still a little frustrating. :)

It's an Enermax Noisetaker ATX 12V Ver. 2.0 470W, but I'm not sure how to check the rail voltages. It was always fine for my ultra and there have been no stability problems at all with this new card, just slightly low performance - wouldn't power problems lead to locks/loss of signal?

I just swicthed from a pair of 7800 GTX to x1900 CF and the 3Dmark03 score are well down 31k to 19k, all the other 3Dmark scores have gone up 01 33k to 41k - 06 8100 to 9500 (clocked GTX to unclocked CF).

From other benchmarks it looks to be that ATI cards are weeker in 03.

Looks like something's definitely not right then with mine - 4756 .
That's the wrong link, you need to use the 'Compare URL' just below the Project Description box.

I get over 6k at stock XT speeds, but your score seems about right for 2D speeds. You could try running rivatuner so you can see a chart of your gpu/vram speeds during the 3DMk run.
