Help !

I've decided to sell the FTO because she's not really getting used and she costs too much to keep on the road when she only gets used twice a week for me to drive 5 mins and back to the Gym

Also we are doing a lot of motorway travelling and she's no good for comfort and economy !

Desmo's car is a 206 so that's a little small to be a comfortable motorway car so we're looking for a nice barge with a few toys

Must have :

AirCon
Cruise Control
4/5 Doors
Good fuel economy
Be ok being used very little
Not too daft on insurance
2.0 Litre

Cars I've so far thought of :

Honda Accord
Toyota Avensis
VW Passat

I will not entertain a Mondeo ... sorry Fox ! :p

I'd have a BMW 520i, not as slow as people think and ideal for what you want. Absolutely lovely cars to drive with great interiors. Next class up from the cars you have posted really.

You should be able to get a 02 or 52 Volvo S60, either D5 Turbo diesel, 2.4T Low Pressure Turbo Petrol or T5 2.3 High Pressure Turbo Petrol.

If you get the SE trim it will have:
ABS brakes with Traction Control, Airbags (multiple), 17" Alloy wheels, Multi-Stack CD-Player, Central Locking, Climate Control, Cruise Control, Electric Mirrors, Electric Windows (front & rear), Full Leather interior, Multi Function Steering Wheel, Power-Steering, Radio, Rear Head-Rests, Wood Dash Trim and Heated Seats.

Mileage is generally irrelevant as they last forever.

Turning circle is terrible, but the are the most comfortable cars in the world and the T5 is such a great sleeper to scare BMW drivers with.

520i 2.2 if you are prepared to put up with the running costs, the cost of repairs and the fact it'll be older.

Otherwise buy an old Passat thats dull to drive, you can tell yourself as you pitch and roll into corners 'At least it doesnt say Mondeo' on the back :p

Oh so true lol :D

Mondeo Ghia X
Accord
406
Xantia
Ford Scorpio 2.5TD!!!
Omega???

If you want a big barge thats also economical then you really need a Deisel I guess. On the otherhand 2.0 mondeos etc are quite economical when on the motorway its just around town when the economy drops off. What the priority? Economy or toys?

Thanks for all your suggestions , Will really help me to have a good look around

I'm fairly open minded but I do want a car that looks nice as well

I do seem to have an aversion to fords which I just can't shift ... don't know why :/

I want a nice , reliable comfortable car that is a nice size so we don't have to worry about cramming all our stuff in when we go down to Swansea for weekends

Going to do some online insurance quotes on some of the suggestions :D

Want something reasonably fun as well?

Did you use to have a Civic vti or am I thinking of someone else? That'd tick all your boxes.

A 6k Passat is guna be a hell of a lot more comfy than any mondeo for the same money.

No it isn't. The Passat is a much smoother drive. It doesn't handle as well but it's definitely a hell of a lot more comfortable.

You could easily get a Passat 1.8T for the sort of budget which would make a great motorway cruiser. If you don't mind an older car though, the BMW 5's would be my choice.

She does look lovely !

The insurance was a nice surprise as well , was expecting it to be in the £700 mark rather than £500

It's an Auto which I don't mind at all ... I'm kinda growing out of revving the nuts outta things :o
