Nope, it's a rear cup holder that's been broken. Apparently they're so fragile that BMW stopped fitting them and replaced them with the cubby hole in later models. We'll just buy a cubby hole for about £5 compared to the cup holder at £30

It really is a nice drive and the car has soo many little extras like the torch in the glove compartment, medical kit under the seat, etc. We've also got a battery starter unit in the boot sitting above the battery. Not sure if it's standard or not but may come in handy

That explains that then - I was convinced it was a cupholder until I checked it tonight and found the useless cubby hole

Not sure when they swapped them over, possibly on the facelift?

When my Dad traded my Xantia in for the 530d the local dealer used it for 6 months as... a runabout I guess. I saw it every day
