£1k Pc but went back to console

Console manufacturers adding 1080p output to confuse consumers has a lot to answer for. I played FIFA 12 on brothers 360 at 1080p and loved it so bought it for my htpc. When my brother came round to play it at ACTUAL 1080p resolution on my big Tele with all the trimmings his jaw hit the floor! Playing at actual 1080p resolution is imo the biggest benefit of pc gaming.

games played: Crysis- some good scenes but a lot of it the graphics seem clumbsy, popping in etc.
Fear 3. jeez that looked kinda out of focus.
F1 2011. very mediocre to look at.
Mafia 2. again looks nice in places but poo in others, graphics drawing in the far distance etc.

buy grossly over priced pc and play console ports on console resolution and complain they don't look good.

lol

Is my monitor going to be holding me back much? it looks like max is 1680 by 1050.

Just ordered this rig as an upgrade for bf3.

anything higher than 1080p is the biggest benefit of PC gaming :p

Cheaper games with better frame rates, modding, draw distance, texture quality, effects all hooked into a solid free online platform that's better than Live is the benefit of PC gaming ;)

Screen resolution is overrated. It's great for some genre's, less important for others.

bhaav you are miyazaki fan like me :D awsums

Perywinkle get the 1TB samsung F3 HDD - it's faster. The sony optiarc drives are cheap/poor build quality, go for the pioneer. Also spend a little more and get yourself either the XFX or Corsair 850W PSU, both of which come in under 100 quid, so that you can Xfire your 6950 if you choose to.

Just to remind people this thread has been resolved for me.
you guys have pointed out my error, that indeed a higher resolution will vastly improve my experience.

also i'd like to add i didnt have the time or the skill to build my own pc, and at the time the place that built it for me online was sadly about £200 cheaper than overclockers so i wasnt ripped off as much as you guys think.

i'm also not trolling and suggesting consoles are better than pc's as i have both platforms.
I will try again with the PC when i sort a new HD TV out.

what i have noticed since returning to pc games (was a long time pc gamer for over 10 years) is that the games seem to run a lot better these days, not as much headaches and fiddling as yesteryear.

Now do calm down girls :D

I did put a ':p' at the end of that post, it wasnt serious.

But really, after using 1200p for so long, 16:9 monitors look retarded to me.

A uni friend had Howl's Moving Castle. I watched it and it made me cry, so then I did the only rational thing I could and bought everyone of them that were in stock :D (the one about the flying piggy and another werent in stock).

And I've only watched half of them, the rest are still wrapped o.O

16:9 is too short for general use, half the screen real is gobbled up with title bars, nav bars, start bars and such. I have my screen in portrait at work. My desktop is 16:10 - and that's where serious PC gaming gets done. But general gaming is through the other PC or a Console on the big screen.

Nice thing about 720p is you can get away with a cheaper card and still max everything out :D

lol the flying piggy is porco rosso. One of the best imo, you gotta get it!

I hate feeding the trolls, but I just can't help it :p:

well what do you expect your graphics to be like at that low resolution???

They should still be (and are) better, resolution isn't everything.

Even an xbox runs at higher resolution than that....
Well it doesn't.

a cheap £10 second hand graphics card that was made in the early 90's can run that piece of cake.....

No it can't.

How can anyone say a pc is the same as a console graphics wise.. the most a console can give out is Native 720p... it can only upscale to 1080p, which is nowhere near as good, But Natively, just 720p... A pc in the other hand can run twice HD, 1600p, which is like HHHHHHD.....

Some console games are native 1080p.

Upgradeability... you can upgrade pc's to perform faster as newer hardware gets released. the closest you can get to that with a console, is buying the whole new latest console when its released.

Whilst true a high end GPU can often cost more than an entire console, so it's a bit of a moot point really.

Failure Rate...... How many pc's do you hear breaking down? ok yes pc parts do have things go wrong now and again, but thats because pc hardware is 10 times more powerful than any console hardware could ever be... N how many xbox 360s do you hear of breaking down??? STACK LOADS.....

Quite a few, actually. Although the original 360 design did have a flaw that's been mostly rectified and any consoles affected were replaced.

And if something does break in a pc, you can just replace that part, where as a console, you either have to buy a whole new console, or wait for microsoft to fix it just to have it fail again 2 horus later......

Again, a single PC part can cost more than an entire console. So it's a fairly poor comparison, you would still have to wait for a company to replace an in warranty part.

Graphical Display... Well, like said, a pc is far more superior graphics compared to any console... its actually been proven that todays spec of pc's, are almost 14years in front of any console spec's...... which is a lot.....
with pc's ability of AA, AF etc etc, there is no contest..

Whilst far superior I'm not sure where you're getting 14 years from, current consoles are generally based on GPU/CPU architecture from around 2005/6. Given that games can be coded for a very limited range of hardware they're generally more efficient than the PC counterpart.

God it's cringe worthy watching these PC elitists defending pc gaming to the death. It's like they've got a gun being pointed at their head by a gangster, and they need to prove how good pc gaming is to get themselves off the hook. I can just imagine them, typing frantically at their keyboards. Making spelling mistakes because they're typing so fast, saliva dripping over their desks etc etc.

The real *mature* pc enthusiasts don't need to prove ****. They know it's better, and they don't need to waste time explaining the obvious (and making bs up to glorify it)

Gaming and hardware progress has stagnated somewhat, im waiting for real time ray tracing and augmented reality games to appear, current offerings just aren't as fun any more.
