Has my Christmas come early?!

I ordered a digital camera for my girlfriend from the popular book shop and selected Royal Mail First class delivery.

I ordered the camera on the 16th of December and it stated i should receive the camera by the 20th.

So, on Friday the 21st i was still camera'less, so i phonned them up and explained it was a x-mas pressent to the american sounding geezer, so he said he would process another delivery for today with citilink (Express delivery or something)

Well anyway, it arrived at 9am (He woke me up with a BAD hangover lol) and i promptly signed for it and went back to bed...

I woke up about 1pm and went outside for some fresh air and what do i see? Another box from the popular book store on my back DOOR STEP!!!:eek:

I obviously knew what it was... the camera, but shouldnt i still have had to sign for this?

Well anyway, should i keep this item and claim the royal mail package never turned up or send it back out of my own back pocket and have to mess about claiming the postage back?!!?

Your call OCUK! :D :D

If it should have been signed for and hasnt been keep it, if they ask you thought it was the christmas cheer :p

Its not your property but you must tell them you have it and give them the opportunity to collect it if they so wish.

If the collection out weighs the camera's cost then they might say keep it.

Best of luck.

Hang on to it for a while because theres a time period for which companies can claim back items they sent out by mistake (3 months or something I believe).

If it's recorded delivery it will have an orange sticker on it with a barcode, normally something like DW 1567 7546 2GB.

Special delivery will have a similar code with SD 1pm written after the 13 digit number.

If it's a tracked item only it will say NO SIGNATURE REQUIRED! ( I think in caps) somewhere on it. :)

Special Delivery items are signed for by the Postman before he leaves on delivery. Tracked items are scanned in when they arrive at the delivery office but not signed for by the postman. Recorded items rely on the postman collecting the signatures and not just posting through your door.

If their is none of the above of the parcel Royal Mail would be unable to say if the item had been delivered other than by asking the postman.

Still awake? :D

Sorry almost fell asleep typing that myself. :)

Had a similar thing happen to me the other day, was in all day waiting for a delivery for my parents, planned to go out once it had been delivered and didn't play any loud music, so I could hear the door bell. At about 5 I was thinking what a waste of a day it was when my mum came in and said she found some boxes round the back whilst parking the car. They were freezing cold so had obviously been there a few hours.

Well on the box it says No Signature Required - ROYAL MAIL 1st class

So i take it that if i keep it, they have no proof that i have it??

Yes, in the same way as if you stole a digital camera from Currys by 'slipping it in your bag' they would have no proof once you'd got it home.

Isn't theft great. :D
