20 years on from Half-Life...

Both games where ground breaking and had a massive influence on the fps scene.

That video brought back a lot of happy memories.

Its a shame the series will never be finished but I'm glad I got to be a part of it first time round.

I remember playing HL in 99, it was Christmas and I had exams coming after holidays but just couldn't put it down. Lost a week but it was definitely worth it.:D

Half-Life is still the best game ever for me, loved TF2 and Portal and I'm still playing CS. I would definitely buy that Project Borealis game if it works. That could be amazing, if the community finished the story.

Won't ever happen though, not in my lifetime anyway. Heck even Black Mesa isn't finished yet how long its been? 10 years? 15 years? I've lost count. Its the same for any major fan overhauls Skyblivion and Skywind is just the same.

Ravenholme was a specific night time level in the town by the same name in HL2. Alyx said something about "we don't go there anymore..." when talking to Gordon Froman about it. It was a dark, spooky level with those black headcrabs, zombai's and those creatures that would chase you and shriek at you :o

"We don't go to Ravenholm..."

I can remember every enemy every spawn point every trap every weapons like it was yesterday. Was seriously obsessed by this game its still one of my top two favourite titles ever. The fact that HL3 will never see the light of day is beyond disappointing. Poor stupid, stupid Valve.

It would have been good just to see an end to the game ark of HL2, or to be able to play all from the original [or Black Messa] trough to episode 2 again and have an ending instead of being left up in the air. They may have worried that ep3 would have been badly received as gaming had moved on by then, but it would have sold well even if it was a little lacking like ep1 was. Very poor show Valve resting on their fat wallets.

I also remember Ravenholm vividly. Gravity gun + saw blades :)

HL2 will always be one of my best gaming memories. I built my very first PC and HL2 was one of the first games I played. I was blown away by the graphics at the time and it made the hours of research and a big chunk of my savings worth it.

I'll give this a watch later on.

20 years.. Where has that gone? :(

Great game at the time. Nostalgia can sometimes cloud judgement but this and a few others that followed are the exception to this. Particularly when the Quake engine came about.

Half life 1 plus all its expansions were great blue shift in perticular.

I always felt then and still do hl2 was not as good as one nor as good as the hype it gets.

It was a solid sequel and still a fun game but my god is it over praised imo

Saw this over the xmas break, a nice bit of 2am viewing while my daughter refused to sleep.

Really brought back some great memories. Quite a few at my work all got it at the same time(even non "gamers" had been dragged into it and got PCs just to play it). Every day we would be sharing tips and talking about levels and puzzles. Never had a game like it since.

Great, great documentary and thanks for the link.

I liked Half Life a lot, it wasn't the second coming for me, and I do not view it as anything else but just a great single player experience.

As someone on the documentary mentioned, I am not really bothered now if Half Life 3 ever sees the light of day, because there are plenty of other games that I have enjoyed equally or if not more.

I was aware of counterstrike, and day of defeat, but what I did not fully appreciate before watching this documentary was modding explosion that took place as a direct result of this game.

Back when half life came out I was rocking a 56.6k modem, and online gaming was damn painful, by the time I got broadband in 2003/2004 Half life was a distant memory. Perhaps if my connection had been better I would have involved myself more with it.

Halflife was / is incredible and had far more of an affinity with me than either doom or the original duke duke nukem game. I am still waiting on hl2 vr and I have never played.episode 2 I am waiting to do it in vr
