20 years on from Half-Life...

Still probably the most for value game I ever bought

Originally played through it in stereo 3d, enhancing the experience ten fold. Team Fortress classic, Counterstrike both became addictions. A couple of mods then grabbed me in the guise of Firearms, and Sven co-op.

I think I had a good 7 years out of a £30 purchase, amazing value and such fun enjoyable times with those mods.

HL1 and 2 haven't been topped. Not just the game itself but the open nature of it for allowing mods, proper dedicated servers, etc. A number of games started as HL mods.

Modern FPSs lack these things and are dead after a few weeks once everyone gets bored of the default experience.

Sven Co-op! I'd forgotten about that, I used to love that, haven't played it in years. Downloading it again now, it's still going apparently :)

It was a golden leap in gaming.

My brother in law is still working on a Half-Life mod called The Core.

And yes, the original half-life, not HL2. It's been 6 years plus now lol

It's proof to me that if you want a game to last you have to provide the tools for modding and be open about letting people do it.

The Core looks great. I want to play that. Any idea when it will be out?

Fantastic series. I completed HL 1 but I recall using a cheat as I didn't like the Zen world platform jumping around antics. Played through without cheats HL 2, and the two episodes and also one of the DLC's, acting as one of the guards (I think)! Old age, memory failing :).EDIT - was Half Life: Blue Shift. Also remembering having Half Life Opposing Force too,

By Episode 2 I seem to remember thinking the game technology hadn't moved on so am not surprised EP 3 didn't happen. Were meant to be introducing new graphics technology across the Episodes but other games at the time of EP 2 I think were a bit more advanced? Not sure if that was true in hindsight but remember thinking it. EP1 and 2 I thought were awesome though, especially remembering one of the final battles.

Spent many hours playing Team Fortress Classic too. Good times!
Another memorable game for me is The Terminator Future Shock :). 1995 game, wow, such clear memories of time spent playing that with my older brother.
