2002 Beetle 2.0 anything to worry about?

You asked people to go off topic. The 3 series is the drivers choice not the sensible choice. For 4k you need to be looking at the focus for sensible. Can't really think of anything other than the beetle for cute. The pre facelift mini is a crappy shell, I hate the interior with a passion.

Well she has put a deposit down today on a pristine, FSH 43,000 mile 1.8T Beetle (Nov 2002).

She drove it, she loved it, she is happy. Probably paying over the odds but the condition really is amazing.

43k, id imagine that must look in showroom condition.

The one my mum bought is an 04 with 55k miles and it's so tatty, wheels are disgustingly kerbed, like deep gouges not just scrapes. It also looks as though a handbag has been dragged through it repeatedly as there are also scrapes on the dash etc. And if you open the drivers door you can see specks of paint scraped off that looks like stonechips, probably from a bag or jewellery. It looks like it has been used for short journeys 6 times a day and I would not have gone near it but I didn't get a look at it before she bought it and my mother doesn't notice these things so ... The paint was alright though, no corner scrapes.

Hope you (she) enjoy it - won't comment on the price as you seem to know yourself how high it is for a beetle, in that colour too! Your money I guess, hardly a vast overall sum in any case

True, but I regard a specialist as better than any old local garage (and often better than main stealer) as I am sure you do ;)

You've obviously missed the 'any old garage can whack a logo above the door and call themselves a specialist' posts :p

It's not Full VW service history if it's got a stamp from a specialist, surely :p

things like that really do my head in on dealer ads. 'Full Audi service history' = one stamp from Audi, 5 from barry the backstreet.

Yeah, we paid the premium of around a grand for the condition, dealer SOGA protection and low miles.

She likes the (funky) colour, although she would have preferred yellow, and in reality, it is her companies money so as long as it doesn't have any major issues she will be quids in around 18 months time.

Yeah, true enough, I will photo the service record for comments on Wednesday when we pick it up.

Now that would just be daft - it's a 1.8t anyway they aren't difficult to look after, it doesn't really matter who done it at the end of the day, just shows the owner made a bit of effort (and apparently means it's worth nearly 50% more than another beetle in a normal colour :p) .
