Possibly gain a few places, so he doesn't go out too early in Indy qualifying.

a) more testing milage on the car
b) gives a better qualifying position for Indy

I'm not sure what James Allen is on about. Ron will sit there and see what happens, he's a racer at heart and possibly the loudest opponent of Ferrari's manipulative tactics. There's no way that he'll force JPM to move over.
