Ahh i see. How much of the course do they use then? Always thought it was a good 9-10 mins in a pretty good road car with a pretty damn good driver? That's not 3miles worth.

This is on one of those new fangled 'not as good' circuits (I think it was another of Tilke's creations but I'm not 100%) that's got nothing to do with the real Nurburgring. It just happens to be in the same part of Germany and has the same name.

It's right next to the old 'Ring. See where it says "Coca Cola Kurve" that right next to the original tracks starting point.

Some interesting times there - looks like the Ferraris are going OK but we'll see what happens tomorrow when it starts getting serious.

I see the BARs & the Renaults only did installation laps, I could understand BAR wanting to protect the engines but I would have thought that Renault would at least want to do some tyre work.

I just don't understand the FIA, they have effectively ****** BAR over for ANOTHER race.
And this survey they've put out, I'd be surprised if they even bothered to collate the results, they just want to be seen to have an interest in what the fans want.
Seriously, it's time everyone in the FIA was sacked, they just can't do anything!

Yet another reason why I pray for the GPWC!

Heidfeld's looking fancy in practise, wonder what he'll be like for the race.

Agree pretty much totally. :D

Also Heidfeld will do ok after he's lost the 8 places from the start they usually do. :p ;)

Is it known whether for these practices the teams were running with race weight fuel loads or not? Just wondering whether some were and others weren't. Would make sense to run with fuel as that's what the quali now will be.

Also wondering if RedBull are running brimmed full as they seem a bit off the pace.

Unless you get someone inside the team to tell you, the fuel loads aren't publicised. Each team will go through a set programme (weather and accident permitting) during each session. For the larger teams this is normally fine tuning setups and analysing tyre wear, the smaller teams will use this time for part testing as well to save on non race test time.

As for fuel loads the second session on Friday is normally where you see more laps being done in longer stints so obviously there has to be the fuel in the car to do this but the car has to be run at all weights to allow for a proper evaluation of the setup - there's no point in having a car which handles well full of fuel but is, for example, carrying too much wing to be competetive as the car lightens.

You'll also find teams running light flying laps at the end of the Friday session simply to improve their place on the timesheets, commonly this is done if the team have a big sponsor visiting or a big PR event that evening.

Red Bull are about where I'd expect them to be, Klien's up there because he's not subject to the tyre and engine restrictions of the race drivers, DC is about right and Luizzi's at the Nurburgring in an F1 car for the first time. Don't look at the gaps to Wurz for an indication of pace, Hiedfeld is the benchmark at the moment.
