So - surprises in qualifying.

Heidfeld's/Webbers pace - I have a feeling they're lighter than those around them to help get off the line and get them pole

Alonso - Surprised he's down in 6th. Hard tyre compound maybe or just more fuel. Didn't see anything wrong with his lap.

Ferrari - Did better than I was expecting given the heat. If it's this hot tomorrow they could be in trouble. *Track was 50°C today. :eek:*

They're quite narrowly spread out today - 1 second covers the top 10.

The last few races have been very good, compared to the borefest that was last year. Hell, there were even overtaking moves at Monaco last week! *faints*
Ferrari are still way behind despite there monsterous testing compared to the other teams, where is it getting them? mwahahaha!
Still, look for them or at least Schumacher running late into the race tomorrow, I believe that Ferrari is tanked up.

*prays for Heidfeld* A Heidfeld win would be great, and it would be great for showing up Webber! :D

To be fair it looks as if 90% of Ferarri's problems are down to the tyres. If the Bridgestones were on a par with the Michelins I think the F2005 would be more than competitive, if not quite as dominant as last season.

Yes the other teams have made strides but to claim the entire shift in balance is purely down to their efforts is somewhat misleading. Bridgestone have basically handed Micheal's head to the other teams on a platter :)

Why do you think no other top teams are on Bridgestone? The blatant favouritism they showed to Ferrari.
It makes me laugh every time they stuff up. They had the luck for so long that they are long due some bad luck.
Of course, now I've said that they will go and win the race, sigh.

And for every bad thing that happens to them, the FIA will be sure to penalise another team for whatever reason it draws out of the hat... :rolleyes:
 
I think your right in attributing blame to the tyres but I don't think it's in the proportion your suggesting, there are other aspects to consider.

- The F2005 is the first contemporary chassis not to be designed by Rory Byrne, the new guy is meant to be good but remember what happened to Williams when Adrian Newey left.

- The front wing interests me, why do they need that extra chin wing? We're now 6 races in and no one else has one, they've had plenty of time to try it so it's obviously not required by anyone else. What that suggests is that the F2005 is lacking front end downforce, given that MS likes a sticky front end this will be a big problem.

- Ferrari's strategies have traditionally been based around using the pitstops to their advantage. We're now seeing fewer stops - 1 or 2 at Monaco rather than 2 or 3 previously. This reduces their chances to leapfrog people but I wonder if the no tyre changes is hurting Ferrari - are they unable to thrash the tyres in the last few laps of a stint? If this is the case then their strategies are in trouble too.
