All two of them? 40gb and 60gb? The 360 has had about 5!

(Am I allowed to question someone's opinion without people jumping down my throat?)

I think he's on about 4 Playstation3 models in comparison to the 3 Xbox360 models.

PS3:
20gb
40gb
60gb
80gb

Xbox360:
Core/Arcade
Premium/Pro
Elite

Whilst the names have changed, the models haven't.

Didn't know that, but it's not intrinsic to the console either. If they [Sony] released another 40gb unit with a DualShock 3 I wouldn't class that as another unit so I don't see the Arcade as different because the console is the same.
Also, the Core was just under 2 years old before it was replaced by the Arcade, the PS3 has been out just over a year and has 4.

I do see your point though.

Oh aye, I'm not saying you're wrong, just making you aware that's all ;)

Unless he travels all over the world surely the 20gb and 80gb doesn't matter? The UK has onyl seen 40gb and 60gb and this was a move by Sony to reduce prices for those who couldn't afford the 60gb (or couldn't justify spending that much money).

It's not just UK based though. It's business decision, so he could comment on it being a bad decision despite not being a part of it.
Yahoo not buying Google for a couple of million was a bad business decision even though I wasn't directly involved with it and it being 2 American companies I can comment on it. I guess he's doing the same.

Whilst I don't agree with his point, I think Sony needed to drop the price and the 20gb and 80gb are options for users (you're not forced into it), removing the 60gb and forcing the 40gb with a lack of backwards compatibility is.

I was going to say, I don't think having more models out is a bad thing. Aslong as all the models can do what they say on the box.

The worst decision was removing BC. The multiple models just meant more people can afford them.

But as said, It's his decision. :)

Don't forget that there's also the HDMI/non-HDMI variants of the Core/Premium, not to mention the Halo 3 special editon.

I don't see a problem with it, I just wish they all came with a HDD so that developers could use it.

I actually spent a fair amount of time thinking about that for my worst business decision of the year vote (which went to the PS3 being released at £425 in the end). Microsoft not having the HDD as standard, which in turn eliminates the potential to cache and efficiently load games for quicker and hitch-free performance, is certainly a backwards step from the first Xbox console. It's an extremely poor move in a futile attempt to offer both the mainstream console and a cheaper HDD-free version just so that Microsoft could grab more marketshare. It backfired in my opinion, as the majority of console sales gravitated towards the premium package anyway. If Microsoft had the HDD as standard, who knows how improved the existing games could be? I am aware that some games do take advantage of the HDD but it is not to the extent that it would have been were it the standard.

Just some thoughts on what would have been counted as my potential worst business decision of the year.
