2008 British Grand Prix - Race 9/17

That McLaren is looking even more detailed now than the start of the season (didn't think it was possible!).

From what I understand its zero aero parts between 2 certain points of the car. (Front to rear)
Yup, I think it's nothing between the two axle lines.

On a side note the Hockenheim thread might be a bit late in appearing because I'm off to Goodwood this weekend :D

I wondered why MacMerc weren't trying the anvil and shark fins ages ago. Ferrari has had those shark fins for so long now...

If a team comes up with a new idea everyone else should aim to be running wind tunnel tests less than 7 days later IMO. Just to see what effect (+ or -) it has on their car...

Good to see McLaren are pushing forward. It actually seems as though they want to win something this year...

Interestingly Ferrari's only major aero changes this season has been that wierd tunnel on the front of the car which they use at some tracks... can't think of anything else!

And much needed space for sponsorship :p

Frank Williams was muttering something last week about lack of sponsorship space on the 2009/10 cars. Something like 25% less surface area for sponsors to advertise (or have 25% smaller ads).

Maybe they'll have to think of some more innovative ways of advertising? :p

To be fair we dont know that they havent

They had a major upgrade recently - maybe they had to get that out first before the fin would have been usable/ effective?

Im no expert, so I cant tell immediately how aero effective a car is etc etc just by looking at it, but even with big teams it can take several weeks for a new part to be fully tested in the wind tunnel and added to the car (if anything a smaller team has less to gamble, if they arent scoring regular points then they might as well try it - a bigger team already has a developement plan that needs sticking to, and potentially throwing points away by adding any part can be a massive gamble

In an ideal world you are probably right though

How long before that anvil is banned now that Mclaren have put one on. :D

What is important is the fact that the anvil has gone on and Hamilton's times are showing him to be the man to beat. This will definitely be of great concern to the Ferrari International Assistance, ie. they cant have a Ferrari getting left behind in the WDC. Lets see how they deal with this inconvenience.

:D

Hamilton said in an interview that the anvil made "No difference."

Wonder if his engineers agree... will be interesting if they don't race with it.

 @ Honda/Button!

what's button doing so high up?! :p

I swear that silly looking aero thing that honda have on the front of the car can't do any good...

Why do people get so excited about testing times?

You folks are aware that Honda's engine is about 30-50bhp down on Ferrari/McLaren? They got caught in the engine freeze at just the wrong time...
