The red light would still be on even without that rule.
The red light is to ensure you don't leave the pitlane while the train of cars behind the SC is passing the pitlane exit

Oh come on. People went on for days on here about raikkonen hitting sutil and taking him out the race. Now its in a pit lane with a big red light, we are just supposed to keep quiet and not hurt your feelings? Raikonen lost control of his car underbreaking and had no option. Hamilton wasn't paying attention to the lights or the fact the 2 drivers infront of him had stopped. That is stupid.....

True. They should still get rid of the rule though. Stupid that you might get unlucky with your stop strategy and be unable to pit as a result.
