2008 Japanese GP - Race 16/18

I wonder if this is yet another move towards having all the races at 1pm European time, American (north & south) races are useless for the middle and far east audience.

given the current state of the canada circuit im guessing they werent paying enough into bernies bank account, as they clearly werent putting much money into the track either

its hard for the "older" tracks to keep up now without government backing to a good degree

Bah, I always liked Canada, if only for the Wall of Champions. Even if nobody went in it, it still provided a hold-your-breath moment each lap.

Not sure if this has been posted yet

Ferrari, or at least Massa, will be using a lollipop system from this weekend onwards according to Metro. :D

/me awaits tyre failure fiasco due to green paint eating tyres ala Indianapolis tyre fiasco.

Long quotes from Hamilton, Massa and Kovelienen. Nothing from Kimi - awesome.

I liked his comment at Singapore when asked about keeping to European time. All the other drivers interviewed talked about getting up at 1pm, briefings at 2am etc.. Kimi said "I get up when I want, I go to bed when I want"

Normally, I prefer the disciplined approach, but I have to say that when it comes to sleep, its best when you wake up naturally and fall asleep naturally. All that nonsense regarding the changing of body clocks at Singapore was ridiculous - the papers hyped it up so much, it was as if it was a huge deal, when in fact it wasnt.

Athletes routinely race in the heats in the mornings and then race in the finals in the evenings (for TV viewers), so its no bid deal at all.

I hated the way they hyped up Hamilton and his sleep schedule in the build up to the GP. It was ridiculous and insignificant.

Now, if the GP was lasting all night long, for example like the Le Mans 24hr races, then it would be worth hyping up.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Constant interviews with drivers saying how weird it was to be eating at different times of the day and how hard it was to adjust, as if the TV crews had just discovered shift working. Some of us have been doing it for years.

F1 being green, what a load of tosh, they use 20 sets of tyres in 4 days, the engines use 2 liters of fuel for every kilometer they travel (not 100% sure) so what the hell is green about them

nothing, hence why they skirt around and aim more at "developing technologies" that could improve the efficiency of production cars

KERS, Eco Tyres, Heat recycling systems etc etc

I'm not sure what it is in litres, but it's about 4mpg average. Less for tracks with lots of big stops and long straights after.
