2009 Ashes Series - England vs. Australia **Spoilers**

hypocritical??..where have i been hypocritical exactly??...ive made it clear even when England last won the Ashes back in 2005 that i wasnt about to support them:confused:...mind you its hilarious watching the Sky coverage and they keep playing the flashbacks to 2005 when you guys won the Ashes.

Yes i do look forward to next week...hopefully the Aussies will finish the job off next week rather than come up short as they did this time round.

Could i just ask what it is you have against the country you reside in?

I think he meant it was good enough to say you hope for a draw for Pakistan but then say "Personally i dont think celebrating a draw is something to be proud".

That is clearly hypocritical surely you can see it unless you really arent man enough to admit it.

You have no place in this here thread, out with you! :p

I do laugh at all the bitter Aussies that couldn't finish us off and then cry about us holding on for a draw. What did you want us to do, crack 400 today and let you have a shot at it? Sure. :D

Nah, but i did laugh at a card one of the people in the crowd was holding.

"Only losers pray for rain"

Made me laugh :D

I was pretty annoyed that Australia couldn't finish England off and win this first test, would have been a great start to the series. And I sort of agree with Ponting on the sportsmanship issue although I don't think it made a difference really.
Ultimately I'm still pretty confident Australia will retain the Ashes.

A draw gets you no closer to winning. You could draw all five games and we'd still retain the Ashes. This game is supposed to be about winning, not stonewalling for 40 minutes in the desperate hope of rain. Yet the Beeb is hailing the result as some sort of achievement. Bizarre.
This is a test series. A draw in the opener is a good result, given the circumstances it was a fantastic result.

As for stonewalling? It was a rather heroic defence by the middle-order and tail, in both innings.

I had to laugh when i heard one of the sky news reporters saying England are going into the Lords test with the momentum - i love the non biased approach to reporting in this country.

The writing is already on the wall and going forward the Aussies will only get stronger especially with Lee back. I think England will retreat into their predicable shell like days past and get well and truly pasted at Lords.

I guess you were one of the people saying the same thing 4 years ago then?

If lords is anything like it has been over the last 3 years, it'll be a bore-draw.

Anyways carry on celebrating your draw...reading the papers this morning and watching sky sports its like you have won the bloody WC yesterday...funnily Pak did win a WC a few weeks back:D...

Absolutely, surely the same logic can be applied - it's not a win, but a loss would be even worse - namely because if we were 1-0 down in the series, it means we'd have to beat the Aussies *at least* twice to secure the Ashes back.

As it stands, another 3 'bore-draws' and one win will have the Ashes coming back to the UK, now that would be pretty funny in light of the 'draw not a win' comments. :p
